I have scoured the forums and magazines and catalogs and done lots of research on suspension lifts, bumpers, winches, and everything. I have been saving money for those two months in order to purchase a lift. I finally decided on the zone 3" lift kit. I have been doing a lot of talking with my parents about buying it. My dad finally did some research on lifts today, and he didn't like the idea of doing it. I just came home from fishing today, sat down on the couch, and was greeted by my parents. Then they gave my this whole spiel about how they want ZERO modifications to their vehicle as long as they own it. They said that I can do whatever I want to do to it when I head off to college. WTF should I do? This jeep has been my life for the last two months. I don't understand their logic.
That's not a major crisis, but I can see how it would feel that way. My parents wouldn't let me modify my car at all... finally, after I showed that I was responsible w/ the car, etc, they eased up a bit and let me start doing things to it.

IMO, while it may suck for you, it'll be a MUCH better investment not to piss them off over such trivial things. Suck it up and drive it stock for a while and see if they ease up for it.

They bought you a vehicle that you actually want, instead of some crappy worn out Honda. You should be thankful. If you act as if you don't appreciate it, you could very well go down a dark path that will cause a lot of frustration on both you and your parents. Showing a little appreciation goes a long way in the right direction. Being a crybaby b/c your parents bought you your dream car and you can't modify it will go a long way in the wrong direction.

Alright guys, thanks for the advice. After all, I am driving a friggen sick vehicle. Yesterday was kind of a shock to me, but it's set in. I'm going to keep putting money aside for the future when they might let me mod. I won't mention it any more around them, because yesterday I did act like a prick. My dad still wants to take it wheelin' sometime, so maybe that will change his mind. It's really fun to drive right now anyways.

Nice... I think this will be the best route for all. I vividly remember being your age/in your shoes, as do many others, I'm sure.. so we've walked that road. Since your dad wants to take it wheeling, I have a hunch that he'll ease up to the idea of modifying it some, but don't push them.

The fact your dad wants to wheel it is awesome. Plus I wish I would have wheeled mine stock in stead of rushing to lift it. Wheeling a stock vehicle can be invaluable in knowing what you need to modify for your region. Not everyone needs an 8" lift and 35s but some do and stock wheeling will make you all the more great about having it modified later on. So just stick yourself in 4lo and crawl along until the fun begins.

Anybody else notice their e-brake seems like it doesn't hold as good as it used to? I've parked my jeep on a lot of steep hills, and when I first started driving it almost 2 years ago with e-brake and first gear it held rock solid on a hill when I just knew I was gonna have to chock it, like almost 40║ incline. But since then I've really used it (not like slammed it on while driving but just pulling every time I park) and it now has moments where it doesn't wanna hold at all. Like yesterday, I was pulled up a little bank to get out of the way of someones driveway, wouldn't think twice about it, and it kept rolling back even in full brake and 1st gear. Then another driveway that was steeper, kept creaking so I had to put it in 4 low just to park securely.

Yup I have the same problem. It annoys the crap out of me when wheeling because I have to turn my car off when I need to look at my line.

Take your dad wheeling in your stock and have someone with a slightly modified jeep go with y'all. This way he can see the difference a lift would make

Can anyone else's Jeep (TJ specifically) crank up w/out pushing in the clutch? Seems like a bit of a safety hazard, but mine will start up in gear w/out pushing in the clutch. Just turn the key and she goes. I'm assuming that it originally did not work this way.

No it did not, some people for ease disengage that safety feature. It is the clutch safety switch/neutral safety switch depending on your transmission, Im not exactly sure how you would reengage it but at any rate look up the clutch safety switch (manual) or park/neutral safety switch (auto).

It's a manual and I figured there was a switch/fuse somewhere, but didn't have a clue where the switch would be.

Don't know how to change it, but yep mine just beeps if I try to crank without the clutch.

Look behind your glove box. I think that's where the fuse is.

Anybody using Cooper Discoverer A/T3's on their Wrangler? I would really like to see a pic of how they look. A JKU with them is preferable, but anything will work.
