Another example: Hi Mr. Insurance Agent, I'm thinking about doing a high performance driving event on a racetrack, will you cover me if I crash, I didn't see anything relative to this in my insurance policy.

Expect to no longer be their customer in 1...2... NOW. If you had read it, saw nothing excluding the activity, and went and did it, you'd be covered. Now you're not, because you did "the right thing"? (nah) you were perfectly covered beforehand.

The simple lesson here is: the only thing you should communicate with is your contract, if insurance company didn't explicitly exclude what you want to do, you're good to go AND DO NOT ASK, you're well within your rights.
This is the most unrealistic advice I've ever seen on this forum...

You are making a huge assumption there... I won't tell you not to go with it, maybe when you roll your jeep going 2mph your "you didn't say I couldn't" defense will hold up...

For my 2˘... I'd say your opinion will likely last a whole 14 seconds in a courtroom...

What's the "huge" assumption? Your contract defines what's covered and what's not. If you rolled your jeep unintentionally and were operating it as intended under the policy, you would definitely be covered.

Call up your insurer right now and ask them whether your car is covered under your policy when you take it to the racetrack--even if you know it's not. Then we can all take bets on how quickly they drop you -- either verbally notified on the phone that instant or in however long it takes them to forward you to risk management and send out the letter, which may be awkward given the holiday.

It sounds great, but the reality is nowhere near that simple...

It's not their first rodeo, they have millions of customers and hundreds of thousands of claims, and you don't think they cover their ass, explicitly? Go read your policy and see what you think you can get away with.

Do you qualify for USAA? They will even cover damages to or theft of our trampoline. If the wind tears it up, I can get the tramp replaced minus deductable.
I assume USAA is for military folks right? I don't qualify for that, would be nice though..
thanks for the tip and the defense against those who know all!

They're pretty loose with it... If a parent, a sibling, grandparent, and maybe aunt/uncle has served, you probably qualify

Yes, insurance and banking, they're awesome. About 1/2 price to insure my cars with USAA vs other companies.

Good to know, thank you. Both my father and father-in-law are veterans. I'll look into it.

You absolutely need to switch. Your father earned it for ya.
