How many current and former scouts on the forum?

I was just wondering. I myself am a life scout who will be Eagle after this summer.

Build a concrete compass at a park.
I helped all my buddies with Eagle projects. The concrete compass at the city park was the best.

I'll be in town tomorrow. I'll get a pick for you. This was over 20 years ago.

Congrats on your Eagle, let us know when your ceremony is.

My 14 year old son just got to First Class

Myself, I am the Committee Chairman for Troop 558 in Mayville, MI. I also help as assistant scoutmaster when needed and try to attend as many campouts as possible. (With the jeep most of the time!)

Food for thought... are you a Linkin Park fan? Did you know Chester was a scout??? He had his troop uniform on for a show they did and talked about it in an interview. It really is a great program to help boys become leaders in their communities and abroad.

I'm an Eagle. I made a record of two local cemeteries (both dating back to the 1600s to current burials) and made a generic map noting the number of veterans and approximately where they were located so they could all be honored with flags on memorial day and veterans day.

My project was building about 4-5 dozen picnic tables for a local church camp.

Making a concrete compass would be cool, but wouldn't it get rather heavy to carry around? I would think the needle would have a hard time turning too.

JK congradulations on your effort and your spirit. I like to hear when someone wants to do an Eagle project that is a little different and puts something special back into the community.

Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Explorer, 20+ as an adult leader, OA, Wood Badge.

I find this hard to believe. You can't start Boy Scouts unless you are 11 or 10 and completed the 5th grade.

I received my Eagle when on 1/29/04, I was born Feb 5, 1990. I was 13, just days away from my 14th birthday. And this was back when you had to wait 6 months between different ranks, now you don't have the time limit. I also received 6 palms on top of my Eagle.

while very rare, it is possible to reach eagle by the time you are 12, if you joined when u were 10. it takes a ton of hard work and determination.

Explain why you find it hard to believe? I have four brothers whom all ranked eagle scout before the leaving middle school (8th grade). My troop has a great eagle rank track record.
I dominated cub scouts and boy scouts. Heck, even ranked a few palms that I never actually received.

For me, scouts and church go hand in hand and that is also why I'm still active. And will be active until I'm dead.

Edit: this was when there were waiting periods and older badges req. like safety. Crap, now I feel like I'm gonna be old soon... :/

I remember when you had to wait between ranks...but I am old lol

I was at the top in cubscouts, but motorcyles and engines took over and I quit boy scouts very early.

I first want to say that by no means did I mean any disrespect. Reaching Eagle Scout is an accomplishment and I would never try to diminish that from anyone.

The most important part of becoming an Eagle Scout is the leadership role you must play in the Troop and the community. The leaders in all the local Troops are 16-17 and the younger Scouts all look up to them. I just can't see that same level of respect given to a 12-14 year old.

I did not make Eagle Scout and I don't regret it. I helped six close friends complete their Eagle projects and become Eagle Scouts. All six still have my utmost respect.
