How many have experianced a true artist?

I remember from 5th grade, a harpist came to the class. Wow! I really felt what she was playing! Another time, a classical guitarist in New Mexico just was awesome! You can go to all the concerts, in every arena, all over the world, but there are so few genuine artists out there, who are your fav's? I love Lowell George (RIP), Enya, Handell(RIP), Tchaikovski(RIP), Stevie Ray Vaughan(RIP), Clapton, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, etc. Anyone who can truly express their feeling to me.

I live in Memphis... well, right outside of it. They're all over the place here.

Beale Street is amazing.

For those who haven't heard of it check it out on the web. Home of the blues and birthplace of rock-n-roll.

There are very few artists that aren't cookie cutter style. I of course prefer people who write their own music and do great live music, but there are fewer and fewer that can do that. I was just talking with my sister about how I noticed a lot of country artists stay around longer then rap/rock genre artists. I think it really has to do with a lot of them writing their own music and being able to perform live.

But back onto the real subject, Eric clapton rocks my rocks live. Tears in heaven just hits me like none other.

A good friend of mine is a singer/songwriter. I'll ask him if I can post one of his songs. He's the type of person that is so humble about it and isn't interested in making it big, he just like to play guitar and write songs. I admire people like that.

I know Beale fairly well. I'm a fan of Rum Boogie and Silky O'Sullivan's. B.B. King's Place is pretty happening too. I'll be down ther for another night on 09/10.

I stood in front of Van Gogh's Sunflowers and witnessed his genius in brush strokes. I watched a friend spin a glass globe into a plate covered in a confetti of colors and saw his own amazement matching my own. I smelled the ocean for the first time since I was a child and instantly remembered the lights dotting the rides on the boardwalk painted into the ocean waves.

What is a true artist? Who knows. Many have claimed to be that I've felt owned little skill for their medium of choice. But it's eye of the beholder as is beauty. There was a small church in Boston dwarfed by mirrored skyscraper, it's image reflected a hundred times over. It held me for a moment before I moved on.

Everyone has experienced true artistry. It's those who actually recognize it that are the lucky ones.

I love music and have spent alot of time pursuing musical instruments ( piano, guitar, saxophone, cello ) some of my favorite artist are Paul Reeves, Ben Folds ( landed is one of the greatest songs ever ), Jimmy Buffet ( commercialized I know, but don't down him till you've seen him live), Kristian Stanfill, and Corey Smith.
