U.S. Army, Hooah!

U.S. Army Field Artillery Maintenance. 63D. 18 years, 3 war zones, they got me the third time, so I can't play Army no more dangit!! You think it's fun four wheelin' in a Jeep, try a 72 ton M-88A2 Recovery Vehicle. Thats some serious muddin'. And you don't have to pay to fix it, you just get the parts and go to work. God I miss that. Oh well.

Silent Service

I've been in the Navy for about 7 years now, up until last November I was the reactor operator on the fast attack submarine USS Toledo, we deployed 4 times in support of "the Global War on Terror" while I was on board. Can't say what kind of cool stuff we did, but we were involved in that initial missile volley known as "shock and awe" back in the beginning of the war. Now I am riding a desk in the shipyard in Pearl Harbor trying to decide if I want to stay in or get out when my tour is up. Here is a cool action shot of the boat.

More pics

That wasn't exactly a typical day on the boat, but it is a nice picture. Here is another one from the same day;

And here is a shot that perfectly illustrates how hard it is to detect a submarine, even one sitting on the surface in broad daylight. There are 3 naval ships in this picture, can you see them all?

US Army for a while as an artilleryman. Desert Storm, lots of fun with an 8" howitzer. Nothing like firing rocket assisted projectiles 30 miles away at enemy airfields. We also fired against Iraqi T-72 tanks at 2000 meters.
This is just a file photo for reference.

Now I'm in the Natl Guard with one additional tour in Iraq done and waiting on my next trip.

Not me, but this is my friend (and the best man in my wedding 25 years ago) Dr. Ben. After years of being director of Emergency Services and a major Washington State hospital, he gave it all up and went active duty National Guard. He is now a Science Officer on a WMD team. He has done a few tours in Iraq as a field surgon attached to a Royal Marine unit. I'm proud to be his friend. I tried to see if I could join the guard a few years back but they wouldn't have me, said I was too old. Their loss.

It's snuggled up just left of the big ship.(in case you don't know which side is starboard, like I didn't)

I wasn't in the military but my Dad fought in WWII on Okinawa as well as other places in the Pacific and my oldest brother was in the marines. I'm proud of their service and thankful to all who have served our country.

US Navy '85-'89 served on the USS Dale CG19.
Worked in the turbine room. Loved it and wish now I'd stayed in, would have been retired by now but I got out so now I'm just tired.

I'm in the Army right now. 11B....Infantry. I'm based at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, southern California. I've got deployment orders for Afghanistan with a small team in September, so I'm maximizing my time left in the States. Will try to post some pics later when I get off work.

do you know the marines (i think) have more boats than the navy

My dad was in the army in bulgaria lol he told me about one of his stories (i'm about to turn 19 june 1st).. he used to drive a tank So he is tightening down a big screw.. he said the threads part was about 3 cm which is abit over an inch in diameter.. so he is putting pressure on it (he is body builder so hes quite big) and he is using a huge 5 ft pipe in the back of the wrench lol and he is putting pressure and all the sudden his leader shows up and he is like didnt you screw that nut already and right when he said that the whole thing snapped off lol then he started chasing my dad to hit him and you see my dad hiding inside a barakade lol. In bulgaria we are required to go to the army when we turn 18 or 19 so the leaders are a bit nicer so its more fun.

Thanks guys, but I have a while...I hope. I'll go anytime they want but after loosing two friends last time I'm in no hurry. I'm still thinking of how I'll deal with it this Memorial Day.

Jordon, if you haven't been to indian country yet, all I can say is leave any demons at home, too much other stuff to think about. If you have soldiers under you, train the right. My biggest fear when we were on the road was loosing one of my soldiers. But they understood their mission and we did it right. If you've been before then you know what I'm talking about.
