I'm in farm/ranch country...and work at a hospital. Have seen many...many...many tow related injuries. Saw a cut from a 3/8" cable parting and backlashing one time that cut to the femur and embedded strands from the cable into the bone...

It is not a cure-all, but a simple heavy jacket tossed over the tug cable helps dampen the ouch. Looking at the above video...me thinks "grade 8" was not in the installer's vocabulary...that or there was tugs before that broke some stuff audibly and the warning was ignored...
