Ya know, if you say that really fast... um, never mind.
Goin' camping at the beach for a week. Got us a spot on the cliff overlooking the ocean, and we'll be trekking down the stairs every day to enjoy the surf & sand.

Hummers & Jeeps

Skeeter, I think it's because the Hummer is such an iconic, larger than life style of vehicle. It's bold looks and obvious sized-for-the-masses styling have made it a target. Plus it's kinda the newcomer on the 4x4 scene (H2 & H3). Seems like potshots are always taken at the newcomer. (remember the YJ ?)

I used "we" twice, I consider myself a Jeep owner and a member of this forum, what Wrangler owners do and what members of this forum do in some way reflects on all of us.

I think when you have "different" groups for "different" 4x4's your going to get rivalry, one trying to out do one another. Its human nature.

~Lev
That's fine, I think the general badmouthing reflects poorly on us Wrangler owners and as a forum. We didn't like it much when the Land Rover goobers tried bad mouthing Wranglers a while back.

I had money in the bank and was ready to buy. They lost a possible sell because they figured I wasent going to pay 20grand+ but the couple who was looking at the brand new hummer was going to spend a lot more.

If anything they were bashing me because I was looking at a jeep instead of a high priced hummer.

If you think I'm picking on you in particular I'm not.
I included that thread simply because Hummers had absolutely nothing to do with the subject of the thread, the comment seemed to come out of nowhere for no reason, granted it was a minor shot but it was still a shot at hummers and it still made my point.
The salesmen ignoring you had nothing whatever to do with Hummers, they judged you as potential customer, not a type of vehicle, they judged poorly.

"jeep" includes wrangler (yj, tj, jk), CJ, cherokee (not sure all the models there), grand cherokee, and several other models of jeeps too. where as "hummer" is a more naarow search of the H!,H2, and H3. and possibly some military HUMVEE. yet agains it would only seem reasonable for the jeep to have more videos.

not tryin to argue with you skeeter. just leveling out the playing field on that arguement. i think it represents jeeps owners badly when the trash talkin is done out of malice. but i feel that majority of the time it's good hearted ribing. i joke on hummers, but its all in fun. its not a pure hatred to the point where i wouldnt let one pull me out.

First off i'll just say I admire you for debating this point its very noble, and your doing a great job.

I could prolly drag this point into the ground till we are blue in the face but it would be pointless, and it wouldent solve the issue at hand. So i'll just leave you with what I orginally Said in the thread.

With me in just in fun, if you are off-roading and respecting the trail and others around you then you are my brother no matter what you drive. We are all out there to have fun and thats all that matters.

The people who I have a problem with are the soccer moms driving these huge h2's h3 while talking on the cellphone, and not watching the road. To drive off road vehicles or Very large vehicles I think they should make you take a class before you get into one and drive. Two times in the past couple months some dumb idiot in a hummer has almost ran me over and could have killed me.

Sorry, sore subject for me.

/endrant

I still love the military style hummers. Short and wide =D

I pick out of love, not malice. Just like I pick at my sister (OC) and call her a noob, but I <3 her.

ETA this was in response to rebelBullDawg

You're absolutely right, there are far more Jeeps out wheeling and getting stuck but it kinda defeats this argument doesn't it?

Argue with me all you want, that's kinda what this thread is for

I really don't care about Hummers, hummers on the other hand are great fun and not to be disparaged.

You got your answer already so if your looking for someone to come out and say "OMFG ONLY LOSERS DRIVE HUMMERS BECAUSE THEY JUST PAIN SUCK!" You wont get it out of most of the members on this forum, and for sure wont get it out of me.

At least I can only hope no one on this forum would take it to that point.

personally i think its becasue the rich people with H2's and H3's think that they are soo cool, because they spent soo much money and they THINK they can go anywhere,

when in reality i they cant go anywhere except for the mall

mostly i just HATE people that flaunt their money, but that why i like jeeps i guess, just ge tthe plain and simple, hard working lean and mean!!

the hummer and jeep war started after the hummer got the military contract I believe it was the early seventy's but don't quote me on that.. and the fact that hummer has become more of a status symbol than a hardcore offroad rig, and jeep owners love to rub it in when they go further than a 100,000 dollar rig

Yeah we could go on about this for days, but when you think about it, it just depends on what is important to you. Sure I can take my jeep places I never dreamed of taking my tahoe, but I could drive my tahoe down the highway at 80 mph, with my boat, somthing I would never attempt in my jeep, and if I was going to drive across the country, I would rather do it in an H2 then my jeep. And as for all the hummer stuck videos, thats all fine and good, but most H2's are completely stock, and very few are wheeled, you gotta have some respect for the ones who give it a try.

Why does their vehicle suck?
It wasn't made to compete with a Wrangler, the closest legitimate comparison you could make would be to the Jeep commander. Wonder how that comparison would turn out?

BTW, the MSRP for an 07 H2 is $53,625 not $200,000

there's nothing noble about what I do, I'm just stirring the pot a bit.
I do think the hatred for the Hummer is odd and somewhat unbecoming Wrangler owners as a group, but I have no delusions that I'll cure the enmity, I just hope when it comes to adverse legislation the haters can agree to fight the real enemy.

I to enjoy stirring the pot... and use a real big spoon to do it..

Last night i had needed some ice cream and the closest place is in the mall to cold stone. On the way out, a H2 pulled into the parking lot. The guy got out in his 3 times to small Abercrombie shirt. i asked him if he ever wanted to out wheelin and he just kinda looked at me and smirked...

I told him that it was ok, i would bring my tow strap to pull him out when he gets stuck.

I don't think he liked that comment to much, but me and the girl i was with just started laughing our asses off as we got into the Rubicon

It is a status symbol, and I really don't think it is a matter of hate, as much as just the obvious obsession some people have, of flaunting their money.

Here is a good example, taken last year, in Moab. And these people did have their noses in the air, with their electric refrigerator, and fruit and salad lunch. We welcomed them into our wheeling group, anyway, and we all had fun. They broke a front axle, on this first obstacle, but kept going with us, the rest of the trail.

Bottom line, I will wheel with anyone. I am there for the same reason they are. To have fun, and enjoy the day. Does not matter to me, what they drive.
