Hummers

What's with all the hate n discontent over Hummers?
Is there some sort of war between Hummer owners and Jeep owners?
Are they out to get us banned from the trails, the deserts and select mall parking lots?
Do they kick our women, rape our dogs and talk mean to our house plants?
I just don't get it, I don't see that kind of loathing for Toyota 4Runners, Nissan Pathfinders, Cadillac Escalades or any of the other soccer mom mobiles. Is it all reserved for Hummers?
Is it all Hummers? or just the H2's and H3's?

Somebody clue me in here, since I'm a Wrangler owner I need to know who I need to treat with contempt and why.

I always thought it was an on going battle royale... . Not really it is all in good fun in my book. Like the old Mustang/Camero Rivalry. I do get a bit nervous around SUV's that have drivers that all you can see is the top of their head. But thats just my .02 cents.

Probably this battle centers around the copy-cat grill and other simularities between the hummer and jeep. They are wannabes and cannot measure up to the offroad capabilities of our jeeps! So we trash talk them and make fun of them.

Because every hero needs an arch-enemy and Jeeps can't be "hero" class without a evil doer to crush.

I Don't want to say this to loud but I used to like the H1's when they first came out and I had my Cherokee Chief. Then I saw that my 70's model Jeep battle wagon out-performed the latest and greatest of Off road vehicles at that time. Just proved to me that Simple and tough makes for a better and more dependable off road vehicle.

yeah, I've always wondered about the whole hummer thing, I just don't get it, I drove an F-150 supercrew, and a tahoe z71, and if I had the oppurtunity I would drive an H2, I love my jeep, but I think there are other suv/trucks that deserve some respect. And with my F-150 I couldn't drive over a 5 foot rock, but it got me down the logging road to my treestand, and had leather and power windows. Sorry if I have offended any of you hardcore jeepers. To each his own.

It is just the incredible versatility, and ability of the Jeep, that makes it so much fun. They go places that full size vehicles fear, with the greatest of ease. It is just absolutly the most fun, you can have, on 4 wheels, without spending a fortune on a Bruiser, buggy, etc.

Some examples:

Now this is my fav video of all time

With me in just in fun, if you are off-roading and respecting the trail and others around you then you are my brother no matter what you drive. We are all out there to have fun and thats all that matters.

The people who I have a problem with are the soccer moms driving these huge h2's h3 while talking on the cellphone, and not watching the road. To drive off road vehicles or Very large vehicles I think they should make you take a class before you get into one and drive. Two times in the past couple months some dumb idiot in a hummer has almost ran me over and could have killed me.

Im not saying its only the ladies driving who are the problem but what are the odds twice in 3 months a lady on a cellphone has damn near crushed my jeeps back end in? Its a epidemic in general that needs to be stopped, if your going to drive pay attention or get the hell off the road.

Im strongly apposed to talking on the cellphone while driving ANY VEHICLE! Im not the kind of person who says that but then goes and talks on the cellphone. Ask odhinn, I dont smoke while driving, dont talk on cellphone while driving, or even tune the CD player while Im driving. I try to tune the radio or switch songs at red lights or when traffic is slow at least.

My step-sister actually texts on her cellphone while driving...WHILE NOT WATCHING THE ROAD!

If I need to make a call, i'll pull over and make one. If I get a call i'll ask them to call me back or I will at a later time OR pull over to talk. Its not that hard, and not worth risking someones life over. If someone is with me in the vehicle I have them answer my cellphone, or tune the radio.

Another perfect example me and odhinn on the way back to my house in his jeep, got plowed into by 4 kids joyriding in their grandparents car at a red light. Thank God the jeep was fine, but one of the kids or us could have got hurt because they were speeding and not paying attention to the road. We stopped, and the driver dident hit the break fast enough and hit us going about 20mph. Worst part about it is we had been stopped for a good 40-50 seconds?

Sorry, sore subject for me.

I still love the military style hummers. Short and wide =D

well said lev. i've had some incidents where people are behind the wheel of something so big that they are in no way able to handle it responsibly. and this goes for both men and women in these ginormous SUV's multi-tasking and doing everything else BUT paying attention to the road. i wish this country would pass stricter laws regarding obtaining your driver's license, maybe a different test for different types of vehicles. driving isn't a right, it's a privilege.

back on topic - military hummers FTW.

Being that i have had to drive one of the H1s in the sandbox in Kuwait... they are actually pretty fun and you can take them alot of places and you can beat the hell out of them and trust me we did. But the H2s and the H3s just suck! you have an over priced Tahoe and a underpowered SAV based on the colorado frame. these are not SUVs they are in a different class they are SAV (Sport Activity Vehicles) they are nothing more than a status symbol, they belong in the same catagory as Lexus or Acura or Cadilac or BMW.... they are for the person who whats to have SUV but really doesn't need one but thinks they do and not sure how to use it...

....and then the put big rims with little tiny tires on them.. i just laugh and shake my head at them cause i know that this winter i will be pulling them out or passing them when they are stuck. it depends on how good looking the girl driving it is...

If I won the lottery, I would have an H1 in a heart beat. The H2s and H3s are just soccermom-mobiles.
That doesn't mean I'd ever give up my jeep. I'd just have both.

I don't understand the hate though. If you know you have a superior vehicle, bashing lesser vehicles just seems petty to me.

For sure you'd have enough room for all the gear, & the whole family, inside the Hummer without having to add on racks & stuff.

I completely understand that Jeeps are fun and once modified make great low speed offroad vehicles.
What I don't understand is why, if we have such a great offroad vehicle, do we feel the need to bad mouth other peoples choices in rigs.

You used "WE" way to much, its one thing to prick at others just for shits and giggles, but its another if you seriously mean it.

I in no way bad mouth them, just rib them lil bit for fun of it. Just look at how many "Hummer stuck" video there are on youtube. LoL

I'll quote my self just incase people dident read fully.

I think when you have "different" groups for "different" 4x4's your going to get rivalry, one trying to out do one another. Its human nature.

Oh thanks skeeter, read the post before you say its bashing. Me and odhinn stood there for a good 15 mins, a couple came in 10 mins after us and was looking at one of the hammers and they jumped on them and never even asked us if I was interested. I had money in the bank and was ready to buy. They lost a possible sell because they figured I wasent going to pay 20grand+ but the couple who was looking at the brand new hummer was going to spend a lot more.

If anything they were bashing me because I was looking at a jeep instead of a high priced hummer.
