And all clear up top. Southern end of the Shenadoah Valley, as seen from the Blue Ridge. The distant mtns are WV.

Please read!

enough talk, let's all do something about this... ...if we're all fortunate enough to be seeing this thread, we're capable of offering a helping hand to someone who can't.

Yes, I know someone else (FEMA, RedCross, National Guard, etc) are all on the ground helping, but through volunteer help, we can make a huge impact.

I'm in CT and would like to organize as many Jeepers, guys with trucks, etc that would like to volunteer to drive into Staten Island (as a first stop) to offer help. I want 20+ vehicles and we'll all drive into the area together. If I can get enough interest, I will figure out a way to get all sorts of supplies (blankets, diapers, baby formula, jeans, t-shirts, hoodies, jackets, etc), load them up in our vehicles and distribute them throughout these areas.

All I want people to commit to is fueling up their vehicles, bringing extra gas with them to keep your vehicles fueled up, and possibly top off a generator or two, and be willing to move shit, drive over shit, taxi some people around in these areas if needed, hand out stuff, and just generally help.

I know the groups mentioned above will not be willing to let us pass into these areas, but screw 'em. They're not stopping a convoy of vehicles loaded with supplies and volunteers. If they won't let us in because it's unsafe, we all need to be willing to take responsibility for ourselves and our own safety, and remind them that if it's unsafe for us (loaded with supplies and capable vehicles), then it's that much more unsafe for the people stranded in these areas without power, food, heat, etc.

Please spread the word. Who's in?

That's a great idea. Only downside I see to this is the gas shortage. It's a war zone on long island getting gas. People are sleeping in their cars overnight waiting for gas deliveries and waits are over 4hours. I'm hoping to finish up the clean up process tomorrow at my own house. Looking to volunteer in other areas starting Monday. I have a full tank of gas (filled up Thursday morning and haven't driven anywhere since). Long beach and Rockaway beach were hit extremely hard and I have friends in long Beach so that's somewhere I'm looking to go to help but I don't think I can go more than 1 day due to the gas shortage. Keep me posted on your plans

I was going to volunteer today but my gf and I are so low on gas today's mission is to wait in gas lines and fill both tanks. I'm going to donate some warm clothes in my travels. Tomorrow we have a Nor'easter coming so we may have more people lose power. If I get a full tank and fill my 5 gallon spare tank I may go volunteer down in long beach thursday if someone local wants to join.

I got my garage cleaned out. Threw out alot of stuff. But i pressure washed the whole garage and reorganized everything. I swear if it get ruined in this storm tomorrow I'm going to be pissed. The garage door is still broken so I have to think of a way to prevent water from
Getting in. Maybe I couple rolls of duct tape or something.

how far are you from CT? (via highway, or port-jeff ferry).

We have plenty of gas here.

I'm about 20-25 mins from the ferry. Driving all the way around idk

Patchogue, NY is where i live. Long Beach is where I spend alot of time surfing and have lots of friends there. They have some of the worst damage. They just got the sewage system back up today but there's still no drinking water or power. Home inspectors have to go house to house to deem them liveable or condemn them

Beach Bum, i'm out in Patchogue too, I work out East in Manorville though. Gas is a little bit easier to get in the calverton area, only about 40 minute waits. Find a station out this way and call ahead if you can make it. I'd offer to load you up with a few gallons but I already lent out all my gas cans so all I got is whats in my rig.

I'm going hunting myself this evening to refill up in preparation for the noreaster incase it knocks out a little bit of power and we go backwards instead of fowards.

Has been a real PITA, but at least I had no damage (right on the patchogue river somehow I didn't flood at all).

www.gasbuddy.com has been helpful too usually if someone has updated in an hour or 2 it means they have gas.

They parked an 18 wheeler in front of Wally at the north end of town and the Kmart at the south end shows up in a couple days. We're gonna fill em up, and send em off to a special needs school within Brooklyn.

A local power crew I know for a fact is sleeping in a van at a baseball field in NY, bathing in portible shower trailers, running 430-700 daily. They said the field is littered with similar crews from all over the South and elsewhere, sleeping in what got em there.

Hang in there, man. We're invading y'all this time.

Sucks man. From what I hear 90% of the island is supposed to be restored tomorrow. Apparently they wanted to restore the flooded areas first. Where do u live?

Good luck to all on the island dealing with this nor'easter.
