Hurricane Sandy

Looks like it might hit the east coast. Plan ahead if you live from NC up the coast.

I live 50 yards from the bay on long island. My street has a manditory evacuation tomorrow. Just bought the house in april and haven't had a storm yet. They say the surge is gonna be worse than Irene. Here's a pic of my neighbors house after Irene. That's my wood fence on the right

Looks like it MIGHT??? Looks pretty certain to most meteorologists. The only thing that partially confuses me is how they are so certain that it will make this sharp left hand turn and hit land straight on. They say it has never happened before, but they are all certain it will this time. And look at the size of this storm, its Giganormous.

I read one report that said that the hurricane along with the winter storm coming from Canada could create a situation where they had storm surges, hurricane force winds and SNOW. I cant even comprehend what hurricane force winds and snow would look like, but it scares the hell out of me.

My prayers go out to all of you East Coasters and hope that you are all preparing NOW... Its easy to assume you will lose electrical, phones, and internet for awhile. So please keep us posted as to how you are, and let us know when your back up and able to post.

I will be keeping all of that. I just left Frisco, NC last night. They are reporting 19ft waves now and the storm is going 150 miles off shore...the road has already been cut off there. Of course this is an island only a mile wide, that is a mile out into the ocean already. I have pictures of the progression of waves. and of today when the storm isn't supposed to pass until Tomorrow or Monday...

I live in Northern VA, but have a small house in Hatteras - about ten Jeep-lengths south of Frisco. Our neighbors are awesome, always prepping for us if we can't do it ourselves. It's a pretty helpless feeling waiting for updates and email/Facebook photos to see how things are going. A guy from FEMA called yesterday to make sure we renewed our flood insurance before the policy runs out in a few weeks. Done. As for NoVa, don't know if we're prepping for rain or snow, but we stocked up on toilet paper for any occasion.

Stay safe beach bum!

I'm heading to work 9pm tonight to move all our Highway trucks and loaders further inland, and get all the chainsaws ready. My crew is right on the bay, southern coast of Long Island.
Category one is no biggie but the way its hitting is going to cause some big water surges. Much worse that Irene last year.

Irene was horrible, and Hatteras Island was slammed, everyone down there thought this would be no biggie, it is going 150 miles off their shore, it has claimed 3 houses in the ocean, and almost the entire island is now under water, it has caused more damage than irene already, and they have 45 more hours to go

Well I am sitting in my living room here at the Jersey shore listing to the wind. Generator at the ready, water stored in the garage and quite the assortment of flashlights. So we'll see how things look in the morning. The jeep is ready to roll, only wish I had a snorkle.

Wish I had a snorkel as well. My jeep is parked at my company dock in Brooklyn. They've evacuated that area already so hope she's ok. I'm on my tug boat in NY harbor just waiting to get my ass kicked
