I am a friend of Willy.....

AA members have their code, I think Jeepers need their own code too. I propose "I am a friend of Willy" so we all know we belong to the club of addicted Jeepers..... That is all!

I’m gonna have a problem with that. My neighbor, a 85 year old man, calls his. . . um . . . willy . . . ahh . . . um . . . willy and he does it too often for it to be funny any more.

Can we think of anything else?

LOL! Well, I did think of that, but I just thought since the original Jeeps were Willy's.... maybe it is a bad plan afterall... Not my first bad idea, probably not my last either... "hold my beer, I want to try something"...

No, got your meaning, but “Me and Willy are heading to the little boy’s room.” and “Willy needs draining.” every time he spends time in our store kinda takes the “special” out of any historical meaning of the word.

i like the idea, and i say stick to the same thing. only use willys as it was originally anyway, with the proper pronunciation, and we won't have that problem.

Hi, I'm Chris (Hi Chris) and I like Willy's ... I've liked Willy's since I was about 16 and have given into the pain of wanting one by getting a little TJ action. I know its not the original, but it is satisfying my needs in so many ways. Takes me places I would have never went before! Ohh how I love Willy's!

My name is Linda, and I am a Jeepaholic. I started just over a year ago when I bought my TJ and signed up for this forum.... Now it has overtaken my every waking and sometimes sleeping hour. I am constantly trying to find ways to make it everything I want it to be. I spend more time on the forum than I do with my family, I know I have a problem, but I don't want to stop! Thanks for understanding

What's in a Name

The original pronunciation of "Willys" was with a short "i" sound for the 'y"; so it was pronounced "Will-iss". But it seems to have been transmuted by the same flexibility of language that could produce "Jeep" out of "GP". I've heard that the workers in the Willys factories were the first people to mispronounce the name. Like most everyone I have every talked with, they pronounced it with a long "e" sound for the "y". The official DMV title for my truck lists the make as a "Willy". (They only have space for five characters on the title.) From that, people guess that one vehicle must be a Willy, pronounced "Willie", which is as good a nickname for William as is Bill. So "Willys" would be pronounce "Will- eez" and obviously be more than one "Willy". Everyone seems to get more and more confused over time. Even my insurance agent asked me if there was an "e" before the "y". I guess I add to the confusion. I often say "Will-eez" as a nickname for those unique trucks and wagons produced from 1946 until 1965.
if you say i am a friend of willys it will be fine. no ' in willys.

I live in the boonies alright. I live above my store and this neighbor actually lives about 5 miles away, but is in daily to sit and bull$hit with me. Great old guy, a regular font of local history and information, but I know more about his Willy’s functions than I’m comfortable with. Last month Willy had an infection.

Other than his Willy, I enjoy talking to him. He steered me to the two ghost towns and a couple of mines that I enjoy wheeling to during the summer months.
