I got a ticket!!!

I was driving the company vehicle home last night and got pulled over for doing... get this 69 in a 65 zone. And to top it off, I was unable to find proof of insurance in the company van, so he added that to the violation!!!

I will be the first to admit that I have earned a speeding ticket as I tend to go a bit over the posted limit, but 4 mph seems a bit extreme on the CHPs part.

OK, I just wanted to rant a bit. Feel free to support or flame me, I can take it either way.

Jeff

My dad and brother are both cops. Take it to court IMO 9 chances out of 10 everything will be dropped and he most likely wont show up for court since its only 4 over unless he has other cases to attend there that day its scheduled!

Were you going faster than 69? He wrote 69 to give you a break? Here they won't stop you (usually) unless you are more than 5 over posted.

From the SF Bay area to Reno on the I80 corrider, it's full of CHP, but

They don't bother you unless you're driving like Andretti and over 75 mph

I usually cruise at 70

I have been reading that due to financial cut backs, leo's are giving tickets for anything over the posted limit in some jurisdictions.

Thank you Mr. President.

I got a ticket story for you

I was selling cars in the late 80s and we did dealer trades
if someone wanted a car another dealer had.
Well I had to go to st paul to pick up a car, on the way about
20 miles from state line I get pulled over. They give me a writen warning
for 57 in a 55 WoW
I am still heading toward minn 10 minutes later I get
pulled over for 58 in a 55 and get a ticket at this point they
take my DL to make sure I would come back to pay or go to court
Now I have two pick receipts stuffed in my wallet
I make it to the dealership and do the trade,I head out back into
Wis about 30 miles and get pulled over again this time
58 in a 55
The trooper is walking up and all I have is these earlier tickets/warnings
ON **** I told him the whole story and he gave me another writen
warning
Now I had 3 of these monster pink tickets till I went to that county
court house to pay

I've been lucky so far with not getting a speding ticket, I have gotten pulled over for having my steering stabilizer hanging off my axle .

However since I've never been pulled over for speeding..ever... I've still got my get out of jail free card:

"I'm sorry officer, the gentleman I bought this Jeep from told me that he had the speedometer adjusted for the larger tire size, thank you for bringing up the fact that he lied. I'll be sure that it doesn't happen again"

Exactley...he just got two easy violations of you. Just show up to court with proof of insurance. They will dismiss that one and most likely drop your speeding ticket (moving violation) down to a non moving.

Take it to court.

If they ask how fast you were going. "65".

as stated above shoing proof of insurance takes care of that, but the 4 over is just asinine IMO.

I've been pondering calling the Tx DPS and asking them to hit the road I travel everyday. odd request huh? I've almost been run over 3 out of 4 days this week...I'm going 5 over, and people are flying past me like I'm sitting still.85-90 in a 65 is just excessive IMO...esp when your in a massive chevy p/u and driving into the sun.

Yeah Jeff, take it to court.

4 mph?! Police Package cars have "Certified" speedometers. RotoRooter trucks DO NOT.

They have no way of proving your speedo isn't off by 4 mph unless the court makes the CHP test the vehicle.

OK, I have to ask. Were you going 70 or better? Was the cop just being a decent guy and wrote down "69" so the fine wouldn't be so expensive?

FYI

The CHP-doesn't have QUOTA's

The court scene, depends on YOUR record/if the officer shows up/the judge/how busy the schedule is-etc

If your speedo is off-That's YOUR PROBLEM/if you had a bad day, that's YOUR PROBLEM, if you were just keeping up with traffic, that's YOUR PROBLEM

You broke the law, you got caught--end of story

i agree that getting ticketed for 2-3 mph over the speed limit is bogus, but you should have been more careful after the first ticket, and even more careful after the second.

i would fight it jeff. especially the "insurance" ticket that one is on the company, not you.

My gunshop is located on Highway 18 in northern Iowa. Highway 18 is a divided four lane with a speed limit of 65. The local deputies and highway patrol officers stop in the shop everyday between 11am and 1pm. They need to take a break from writing speeding tickets. Neither will pull over a vehicle going less than 75. They would have to stop all traffic to do so. They write about 6 tickets an hour in a six mile stretch of highway.

In most cases here, anything less than 5 mph over is dropped. Especially if it was with the flow of traffic. I know lately they said there is no more "5 mph barrier", but if it were me, I would challenge it.
One of the kids I knew in HS got pulled over... 16 in a 15. School Zone ticket. Ouch!

I got a speeding ticket a couple of years ago for going 38 in a 35, but the cop was giving me a break. I was going closer to 50 and admitted that to the cop so he was giving me a break. I also couldn't find my insurance card, but a quick trip to the court took care of that. Had I not been honest with the cop about how fast I was going I'm sure I would have been nailed on the ticket...near a school zone.

I just got back from my 71 in a 55 ticket court hearing. The judge felt gracious and lowered it to 69 in a 55, thus lowering the points and the fine itself. I can't complain.

I was driving in Southern Ohio on one of those four lane divided highway that aren't really highways (2 lanes each direction with about a 100 yard grass strip between) and the speed limit changes between 55 and 65 about 20 times in 10 miles. I was going 63 in what I thought was a 65 mph zone.

A state trooper coming in the OPPOSITE direction drives by, slamms on his breaks, and then whips his car into the grass median and pulls a U-turn to get behind me and pull me over. Apparently the speed limit had dropped to 55 without me seeing it, and he got me for going 8 over.

He also got his cruiser caked in mud and rutted up our beautiful highway landscaping

Jeff, speeding? Really? You should be ashamed of yourself!

I'm really surprised you didn't get out of it. What with those big eyelashes to bat and that charming manner you have. I'm sure that cop was having fantasies about putting your foot prints on the ceiling of his crown vic!

I'll see if I can dig up the old FEDERAL LAW....stating that any US sold vehicle CAN from the factory.== The speedo can LEGALLY be up to 3mph above or below the vehicles identified speed on the speedometer.

Don't ask how I found it in the past, a family lawyer found the Law for me when I got a ticket for 3mph over one time. The judge actually looked baffled when I presented it to him and ajorned the court for 24hrs so he could have the law verified. Well the law is true and I was released without any fines. Still can't believe I got a ticket for 3 over but oh-well. The cop was just doing his job. And don't know if the law is still in effect this was probally 6 or 7 years ago.

I'll pm you the Law "if" I can find it bud. Don't know if it will help any or not.

Now my option on the matter...well...I completely think you can get out of it from the court with proof of insur, and depending on your driving history.

And the cop...well they just do there job..everyone hates them but if you take "coper joe" and he lets little things slip..well truth is later on he's going to start letting bigger things slip, and then "coper joe" ...isn't doing his job at all. Whether or not the cop was just looking for something or having a bad day, I can't put any blame on him for preforming the task he did.

It does suck you got tagged. The bigger thing I'm wondering is....how bad is this going to affect....Work?

WTF!!! Ewwwwwww!

I was not doing over 70 cause the company gets on us if we do so I set the cruise control at 69 and calibrate it with the GPS to make sure I am not over doing it. Since I started doing that, I have not gotten the annoying call from my employer.

It wont affect my work, I told them what happened this morn, then the boss show me his ticket for 80 in a 65. $300.00 for that one. My record is spotless besides this mishap. I plan on fighting at least the proof of insurance portion of it to get that one taken off.

Hey you have the GPS system for the trucks that are at monitored on the computer at the shop? IF so they can pull up your speed at any given time on the system and you can take it to the correct too. (To show you were actually only going 3 over)

I do believe you got the ticket because you couldn't prove insurance. Once you get to court show the court that you have insurance and I bet everything gets dropped anyways.
