I hate people...

We live next to a duplex, the owner of the duplex has an in ground sprinkler system that waters the lawn every morning whether it needs it or not. The owner pays a professional lawn service to mow, fertilize and otherwise care for the yard. One of the tenants is a little old man who's out there almost every day watering with a hose and sprinkler or otherwise dicking around in the yard.
Today he wakes me up at the damn crack of noon weed whacking along the chain link fence that separates our yards in that old man shuffle kinda way. Wing nnnn chink chink chink, wingnnn chink chink chink chink, wingnnn chink chink chink.... I have half a mind to go out there and look at him in a mean tone of voice...

Eh, too much effort, I'll just sit here and grumble about it on teh interwebs...

Skeet works nights, I believe. Crack of noon is his crack of dawn.

workin nights sucks for that, so many people think "oh its after 10am, everyone should be up by now" not realizing some are just getting to sleep.

I understand, but it has to be cut sometime...

When I was on midnights, I had my windows covered with blankets and I would sleep with a fan on Medium to drown out all the nieghbor noises.

I drive truck, I get out more than most

I drive truck at night, I got to sleep about 10AM. (thanks Tiny)

I understand the lawn needs to be cut sometime...That's why I pointed out the duplex owner employs a professional crew to maintain the lawn, usually at 8AM Saturday morning. The old guy is just bored and apparently can't find a better hobby...

Oh, and Amy decided since I was already up she would go rototill the garden. Tonight's gonna be fun

Gonna plant some more jalapenos this year Skeeter? I've got 3 plants coming along very nicely right now. They're in big pots instead of a garden this year since I'm moving. Mobile gardening is my new game!

Hey, I wasn't going to rototill, since I know you need the sleep. You told me to go ahead and do it. So don't try to blame me for you being tired.

We've got jalapenos, anaheims, habaneros, sweet bananas and a couple of fatalis. We've also got roma, cherry and beef steak tomatoes, a few slicing cucumbers and a bunch of pickling cucumbers started. All of these are in pots, in the dinning room.

Container gardening is a great way to do it if you can't, or don't want to, put it in the ground.

I'll trade you your old weed whacking man for the group of 7-8 weed smoking teenagers that I just got done chasing off of the stairs in front of my condo. They look at me like I don't know what they are up too . . . stupid kids. Maybe I should get a fake badge and start confisgating their weed rather than just chasing them off.

Win the lottery then move to where there are no people. Then when you get home in the AM from work no one would disturb you. oh yeah, you won the lottery, you wouldn't go to work.

if you find pots are not mobile enough, try using the handheld baskets from grocery stores. we use them to start growing things up here before moving every thing down to the river. the shape lets you fit a bunch of them in the bed of a truck, without wasting as much space as a round pot would.

Awww Skeeter, try to cut him some slack. Some day if we're lucky enough, we'll be old and bored and need something to putter around with. I'm sorry for your lack of sleep, but tonight might be his last..... I have the same neighbor and he too tends to drive me nuts, but I think it's just cause he hates his wife. Since she retired, he's outside making all kinds of noise, all day everyday, rain or shine, freezing or scorching. He must not be able to stand being in the same house with her..... Just be grateful he isn't out driving Missus Amy off the road....

I used to have the same problem.

What helped really was a combination of a few things. Try to turn a fan on or use some type of white noise to focus on when your falling asleep. I used to have a neighbor that was deaf and would turn his music up so loud to be able to feel the vibration in the bass of the song.

Needless to say, it kept me up nights.

That's a good idea. Hopefully next year I'll have a garden again and won't have to worry about container gardening. Had to do it this year because I wanted the peppers but was moving in less than a month.

Amy.......sounds like you two have quite a salsa factory in your dining room!!

Move to the country. My neighbor would have to blow up his house for me to hear it. A few years ago a helicopter landed at his place to rush him to the hospital. My wife and I never new it landed or took off.

Yep, I love salsa, actually, I love just about anything made with hot peppers.
Peppers do good in pots as long as you watch the water, they're pretty sensitive to moisture levels.

I'd love to move to the country but being gone nights would bother me. It's also kinda nice being less than 3 miles from work, or just about anything else we need. If gas gets too expensive we can always walk.

I made something you might like the other night then. I took a bunch of jalapenos (store bought ), halved them, put a slice of tri-tip in them, then wrapped them in bacon. Threw them on the grill until nicely done, then served them with ice cold beer. They were a hit.

Hahahahaha! That pic is hilarious!

I remember when I worked 3rd shift (and man, do I miss it terribly...I love working nights). I kept black garbage bags over my windows and I slept with a fan on my face. Nothing woke me up. It was great.

P.S.
Go get some concentrated Round-Up... mix 6 oz to a gallon of water in a pump sprayer. Set the spray to a fine mist (keep the droplets small otherwise they won't drift very well). Go out when there's a light-moderate breeze and spray along the fence line. If his property is downwind from yours, he shouldn't be anywhere within 6 feet of your property for the rest of the summer.

If his house is upwind, set the droplet size a little larger...wait until the wind is fairly calm and aim closer to his yard than yours while spraying the fence line to reduce drifting into your yard

B4 anything drastic happens or we hear about this in the news, can you explain to the ol neighbor that you work nights, and his green thumb is keeping you from your 8 hours. Communication separates us from animals... sometimes.
