I hate rain!!!

The roof in my shop started to leak so I ran down to the hardware store to get some tar and then put it off since it was nice and sunny last week and the hardware store no longer sells patching tar in little cans, they just have tubes and I couldn't find my goopy squirty thingy (caulking gun).
It started raining this morning and the roof started leaking worse, and of course my computer is right under the damn leak so up on the roof I go.
Did I ever mention I'm afraid of heights? Well I am but I screwed up my courage and made it...eventually...in the rain.
I get up there and locate the offending tile, a nail had worked it's way out and pushed one of the tiles up so the water was backwashing under the roof. Should be an easy fix. The goop in a tube says it's for emergency repairs wet or dry so no problem with the rain right? Wrong!!! BTW I still haven't found my goopy squirty thingy but I figured I'd just push the plunger in with my thumb...So there I am shoving on the plunger and not getting anything out...in the rain, all of a sudden there's a pop and gush. I'd shoved my thumb through the plunger and the goop squirted out all over my hand. Oh well, I scoop up a bunch of the goop and try smearing it on the tile and it won't stick!!!, The more I try the more mess I make so I get a bunch out and just glob it on. No I'm pissed and both hands are covered in tar but I think I've got the leak at least slowed down. I start reading the tube to see where I screwed up, don't know why it wouldn't work in wet weather but I did find out there was a seal under the nipple I was supposed to puncture which is why I couldn't get it to squirt.
The moral of this story? don't go up on the roof in the rain after working all night and expect anything good to happen.

Hope somebody enjoys my dumb.

Look on the bright side, Hon. At least you're not still up there, trying to work up the courage to climb back down. And, it's not snowing, yet.

So, is the leak still dripping or did you get it sealed?

This reminds me of a project some years back. We had made all the roof penetrations, wire pulled in and terminations made. Its now time to go up and mastic all the penetrations. I give my helper a gallon of Henry's and a putty blade and send him up on the roof. The guy gets up there and decides to use his hands instead of the blade to apply the mastic. I go out to the truck to get something and see black mastic hand prints and foot prints all over the snow white stucco wall where the access ladder is........... He spent the next 2 days cleaning and we had to have the plasterer recolor the wall. GRRRRRR!

LOL masticing the penetrations sounds kinky.

BTW, how do I get all this damn tar off my hands? Orange goop doesn't seem to work and I really don't want to go play with gasoline.

I need sleep...

Most any kind of oil should solve the tar.... baby, veggie, motor, etc.... Sorry for your rough morning. Some days you get the bear.....

Yeah, and gasoline ain't what it used to be either. It just smears it around more. It'll wear off in time. Till then, don't touch Amy.

I personally love the rain. Work picks up and I get to make money. (I work as a repair service plumber). And here in So Cal, we get only a few days of rain as it is so anytime it rains it a real treat. Also an excuse to drive the Jeep in normally easy trails as they are completely new now.

If basic soap is not working, try dish soap for fighting grease. If not working, don't bite your nails for a few days.

You know what I hate? Winter! (Especially when we still have a garden full of half ripe tomatoes.) A couple of days ago, it was over 90 degrees, now it's 44 degrees.

Acetone for the bearshit.

The easiest cure for fear of heights is: Don't go up to high places.

Second easiest: Don't fall (it's the falling you're really afraid of, or if you prefer, the landing).

Oh, and the biggest hint for EVERYONE that EVER reads this thread: DO NOT let electricians work on roofs!! (sorry pointy).

I am still running around with just the bikini top on. Gotta keep the sun off of me.

Jeff

p.s. I know I will get flamed for these commets, but I only say them cause I would love to actually have 4 seasons rather than a really long summer and a month of fall/winter/spring all mixed into one.

Coming from Texas, I really enjoy 4 seasons instead of Summer all year and maybe some rain or ICE for a day or so every so often. Kentucky is pretty good place to be!

You need the winter season to get a new top for yourself. Last time I saw you, I could see your boobies as your top is getting a bit threadbare!

Larry, why are you peeking at my boobies? Those for only for Mrs. Turd to look at. And as for trading houses, the wife would not allow that to happen. She loves her 70* winters.

I know what you mean. I'd love to have 4 seasons too. The last few years we've only gotten 2 seasons. Winter goes straight to summer and summer gives way directly to winter. My 2 favorite seasons have completely disappeared. It's really weird.

I actually like driving in the rain or sitting in a nice warm house but I've gotten too old and broken to like being out in it.

Falling backwards out a second story window started my fear of heights. Doubt I'll ever get over that.

I cross 2 mountain passes between Montana and Washington each night. I started with 54* and mostly clear, got into light mist and drizzle in Idaho, hit heavy fog and rain in eastern Idaho, then 28* with light snow and ice at the Montana Idaho border, then heavy downpour across Montana last night.

We live in eastern Washington, it's called the dry side. Contrary to popular belief, most of Washington is desert, there's only a small strip on the western side of the cascade mountains that gets a lot of rain.

We have an adult section? If so, why do you feel it belongs there?

Oh, and

JK, it was a lot of "goopy-squirty" talk I thought.

Are you by the scablands ?? A co-worker grew up there, recently retired and moved back. I saw a documentary of how it was formed, good-good stuff.
