I hate selling on Craigslist = rant(no), story

So, I have my old set of Gambler wheels, almost new set of Rough Country shocks and 1 1/2 inch wheel spacers for sale on Craigslist. First off, I Do NOT list my tel. no. on the add. I can't imagine how many idiots would call, it's bad enough answering a few questions, then giving out my cell no., then dealing with these idiots.

Just now, which was the reason I started this rant/story, a guy from 30 miles away has been calling about the wheel spacers. I paid $120 for them new and only had them on for two months and I'm asking $75 for them. He never questions the price over the phone, he drives thirty miles to offer me $40 then gets upset that I say no. So, he leaves.

I came in here to write this rant and guess what ? He returns 10 minutes later and sez okay John, 75.

I don't need this.

I think I'll list here on the WF.

Gamblers ! Shocks! Cigarillo's !??

the main point is that people are jerks. i run into this type of crap all of the time, especially at work. people like that are always looking to screw you out of as much as they can. they have champagne tastes and beer budgets. the best way to deal with them is don't negotiate b/c they are just trying to screw you over.

I posted my hard top on there - Title: Black hard top for sale for 2006 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited - $900. I posted my cell # and this stoner calls wanting to know if I'm selling the 2006 Jeep for $900. I'm like, uh, yeah, a 2006 Wrangler for $900 - moron. He calls me back and asks the same thing the next day.
I try to explain it to him but he's dense as a brick wall. A week later the same friggin guy calls and wants to know if I'm selling a Mustang! I say, aren't you the same guy that called me about the Jeep last week? And he hangs up.

I did end up selling it there though. Also my Ravines and my ES3000 Pro Crap shocks.

I'm curently trying to sell my KHAKI unlimited soft top on Craig's list.

Guy #1: What color is it?
Guy #2: I have a 93 Wrangler, will that fit on my jeep?
Guy #3: I'd buy it if you would sell it to me for half the price your asking: (I'm trying to get a VERY reasonable $250 out of it, and it's in GREAT condition)
Guy #4: I definitely want it, can you hold it for me? (I kindly explain first come first serve. He says he'll pick it up at the beginning of the week. I don't hear from him until the next weekend. I call him up, and he says that he wants it, but I would have to drive it to him 180 miles away)

WTF!!!

Yea, it's crazy, but I'll take craigs list over any of the forums

I've sold probably $2000 bucks worth of stuff, within one week of listing on the San Francisco/Northbay area, craigs list and not even one post on the forums and every item was listed

No I take that back, I sold all 5 of my Rubi wheels on another forum--

Craigs list is fast/free/easy to update and deal by email--

I guess no matter what there are NUT BAGS out there. If you want to laugh at some of these people check out some of the q&a forums on there. Some of the stuff is frickin funny

I had someone try to scam me while selling a pickup on Craigslist. I was asking $5000. He sent a check for $8000. He was gunna come pick up the truck for the owner that was moving, and I was supposed to transfer $3000 to the guy in California for some cost worked out between those two. I took the check to the bank to have them check it out and within about 3 seconds the teller says its fake. So I stopped responding to the guys emails, and he decides to email me, threatening to contact the FBI because I took his money and hadnt given him the truck yet and he knew where I lived and such. So I told him I knew about the fake check and I would go to the authorities if I heard from him again. Not even a thanks for your business or anything else from him.....

Funny this thread was posted tonite. I just listed some 6" flares, 1/2 doors, bumpers, and a Trektop on there a few hrs ago. Since posting them I have already received 7 emails from scammers. Its getting ridiculous!

A similar thing happened with me when I was trying to sell a WoW account. They sent an extra 200 bucks for my "trouble". That immediately sparked a suspiscion that something was up. I got the check, called the bank that the check was issued from, and reported him. The bank was acting like I was the idiot.

I got another similar situation when I was selling a King size matress. It's defeinitely a situation where you have to realize something so good is too good to be true.

There's a ton of this kind of stuff. I was going to try to sell a 1973 Plymouth Satellite Sebring on Ebay but they tell you to not take; money orders, cashiers checks, CASH ! They tell you to get a bill testing kit if you are going to accept cash. I ended up selling it to a police Lt. off of Craigslist

I like the idea of Craigslist, we've sold quite a bit there. I just hate dealing with ..........people, for lack of a better word.

At least with Craig's list you typically have a phone number, and get to know somebody a little bit before you sell it to them. Just the other night I met a Wrangler owner, that called about my soft top. We realized the top wouldn't work for him, but talked for a good 30 minutes about our jeeps.

AMEN! Its ridiculous that to make a simple transaction between two people you nearly need to have a financial expert there to make sure you can trust the other person.

I have sold tons of stuff both on ebay and craigslist...ebay is getting ridiculous with their demands on how THEY want you to list something and they're losing some of my business over it. For example they want you to specify a shipping rate when you list the item...how the heck can you do that when you don't even know where it's going to be shipped?? So now I just say local pickup only then deal with the buyer after the sale. Craigslist is a whole 'nuther ballgame...You just have to be persistent and be able to weed out the spammers and low ballers and eventually you will get a real interested party that knows what you are selling and will pay your price...that's the "cost" of a free site...
Nevertheless, I persevere and conquer (but the spam is getting very bad)

I like craigslist but as mentioned before I just don't like dealing with all the crap you have to go through... Like this and this and that and that..

I prefer eBay ALOT MORE! I know it costs to put on but if you have 1 picture of something... It's free most of the time.. Or atleast $0.35.

With ebay all you do is post it, describe, and answer questions over the internet... If you get the shipping price right and everything, your making some mulah

I just sold an underground dog wire on Craigslist today... the first thing I did when the guy emailed me was did a reverse search on his phone number, which matched up the name. Then he called after he was on his way saying that his bank screwed up and he couldn't get the full amount (told me he couldn't buy it after all). We talked and I told him I'd accept the amount he had on him and take a $10 loss on the item.

But because of that call...it also made me wonder if he was gonna be a shady character...

So before he got there, I pulled my gun out and placed it in an easy to reach area, set a full loaded mag next to it and made sure it was ready to be fired..."just in case."

I recently heard about somebody was trying to buy a car on Craigslist and when he got there to buy it...they thieves shot him and robbed him. A lot of people are no longer buying cars or expensive items on Craigslist for that reason.

Okay...so apparently this has happened a lot more frequently than just the one story I saw. I'll have to keep that in mind when selling stuff...except next time I think the gun will have a round chambered and be on me.

First off, I've used CL and Ebay to sell a bunch of stuff, usually Jeep goodies or old video games.
A friend of mine was selling a very nice boat (he is a millionaire) off of CL. The guy came to look at it, pulled out a knife, and stabbed him. His son ran out and the bad guy sliced his sons throat (both survived). My friend and his son are fine today. The bad guy ran off and cops found him. Still a VERY horrifying experience, just be careful out there guys.

All I have to say about craigslist is i hate it. I've never bought or actually sold anything, I've tried to sell my xbox360 so i could get a new bumper but that didn't work I almost got scammed and I have had friends get ripped out of stuff because they trusted checks. I definitely will only sell my jeep parts as I replace with new ones on forums such as this because I feel like I can trust people here alot more than the random people around the city.

Dude, I started thinking that the guy that bought the spacers could have been Vietnamese and was going home to round up the Khmer rouge for a day light home invasion for not accepting his offer. Good thing I had just ordered a 50 cal. home roof top mount attachment from Combatratec. I'm thinking this is one time I shoulda paid extra for two day delivery.

Now you're getting extreme

I never have anybody meet at my house and I never take checks--just cash

I've arranged a meeting spot in my town, so my residence isn't in jeopardy

--s3nt3nc3d--NEVER leave your sidearm in the open and if you THINK you're going to use it --KEEP IT LOADED-COCKED & lOCKED AND WITH YOU !!
