Years ago (late 70's?, early 80's?), Mechanix Illustrated sold plans for the Urba Diesel Centurian. If my memory isn't off, it used a Kubota 3 cylinder diesel normally used on small farm tractors. The car was based on either a Triumph or MG (I think it was a Spitfire, but I'm not certain) with a handbuilt fiberglass body. The prototype managed 125mpg at 35mph, but dropped to something like 55mpg at interstate speeds (full throttle).

I saw one of those (the unmodified version) a couple of weeks ago. Not sure what to think about a modified version, since it looks a bit top heavy for handling.
