Angry IBM building Skynet....

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/02..._bluegene_web/

Quote:
IBM working on a computing system capable "of hosting the entire internet as an application." This mega system relies on a re-tooled version of IBM's Blue Gene supercomputers so loved by the high performance computing crowd. IBM's researchers have proposed tweaking the Blue Gene systems to run today's most popular web applications such as Linux, Apache, MySQL and Ruby on Rails.
Can download all of the internet in 3 seconds...

It's coming....

When I worked on desktop support people would always ask me how do I download the internet? (meaning how to get the browser)
I wonder if anyone has ever estimated just how much data there is on every single website in the world

The only thing keeping it from becoming "self aware" is that it's not an AI system.

Why do the cyborgs need teeth?

How come you can't see their eyes glowing red thru thier fake eyeballs? Why do they glow red in the first place?

Why can't they make a cyborg that shoots better? He misses almost every shot in the movies.

In his speech at the annual conference of the National Advertisers Association, Eric Schmidt, Google CEO, said that, from the data recorded by the search engine, it seems that, at this specific moment, the Internet is made up of 5 million terabytes.

Even Google, which is considered currently the best search engine ever, has succeeded to index only 170 terabytes up until now, Schmidt said.

Google has been indexing information for 7 years, and if you want to have an idea on how fast this process is, it seems that, in order to index the 5 million terabytes of data, the search engine would need 300 years. And this would be valid only if nobody posted new content on the Internet...

My 2.2 core duo runs vista just fine, I really don't understand why people have so many problems with it. I put XP Pro 64 on when I first built my machine and couldn't find any driver support. Vista actually solved all my problems. [/off_topic_rant]

All of them? Man, wouldn't it be nice if just upgrading your pc fixed ALL your problems!?

lol, well yeah, just the pc driver and compatability problems. Vista didn't lower my blood pressure, repair my rusty floorpan, or get me a better job or anything.
