"ICE" Numbers on Cell Phone

Ran across this on another site and thought I would share here just in case it hasn't already been done.

This is good information worthy of passing it along to you. Please do the same to help spread out the word on this campaign.

Apparently this is a standard procedure all paramedics follow at the scene of an accident when they come across your cell phone.

ICE - 'In Case of Emergency'

We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency?

Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency)
Campaign The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As cell(mobile) phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of Emergency). The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as 'ICE.' For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc. A great idea that will make a difference! Let's spread the concept of ICE by storing an ICE number in our Mobile phones today!

Edit.

Actually if you use "1 ICE, 2 ICE, 3 ICE" they will appear at the very top of your address book.

My LG Dare came with the option to set 3 ICE contacts. Pull up my phone book and on the very top is an In Case of Emergency button. Hitting that brings up my future wife's, mother's, and father's cell phone numbers. Pretty cool stuff.

thats cool;. i actually think about that all the time ( i have random thoughts) but my phone will not let you store 1 number under more than one name. and i dont want my mom to be listed in my phone as ICE. i'll see if i can figure some way out

Good thinking, just changed mine to reflect that! I knew we kept you around here for a reason!

my new cell came with the ICE option, too. there were 3 slots to add numbers. i think that is a pretty good idea. instead of a paramedic calling 20 numbers before he actually gets a family member he can just go right to the ICE Contact

My wife and I were visiting my parents in MI, asked her to put my phone in her purse, went poddy, walked over to a resturaunt and while we were eating, my cell phone called my wife's phone....(she "sets" things) had to walk a couple a blocks and offered a small reward. Didn't take it, nice young kid (early 20s qualifies as young).

Phone rescuer got my wife's cell number from the ICE. NICE.

I think it's required with newer phones coming out, or by provider. My Env2 came with ICE contacts, listed my mom, dad, and sister.
