If I owned WF...

Lets keep this on topic and constructive. Its a simple question... If you owned WF what would you do different? What would you do the same? How would you improve it?

No wrong answers, No right answers. Lets try it out, and if we use any of your ideas or suggestions there will be a suprise in store.

So lets hear it!

Have our own write up section so we wont have to link to other sites.

Have a subsection in TJ/YJ/CJ sections devoted to important stickies, FAQs, pertinant info etc.

Have a page with name, contact info, description etc. of member related buisnesses, real good, friendly jeep vendors etc.

If I were you, I would be like "the other" forum, spam it with ads, and sit at home all day j/k

I dont see major flaws though. I love it here

Like JCS said, a specific writeup section, broken down by model, then for electrical or other universal type applications.

Perhaps some way to list each member and their rig. This section could list all mods to their rig and provide a link to email or PM the owner to ask questions about specific things.

Along the lines of a vendor section, maybe a Vendor section that has 1 section for businesses owned by members and another section for 'preferred vendors' and another one for 'recommended vendors'. Preferred vendors can be those who have paid to be a vendor on here. Recommended vendors can be those vendors people here recommend, like DPG, Northridge, or Redrock4x4.

I think the Forum is great it needs a Flames forum for anger and rantin and raving though. I don't know how to explain but stangsource.com's setup is awesome that used to be my place when I had the Mustang. Its all broken down real good. Section for videos and links, vendor section all that.

I too think we need an "Articles" section where all the write ups go. Also, the "sticky" threads need their own home. It is nice to have them easily accessible to the noobs, but we keep getting more of them and soon we will have to go to page two just to see new posts.

One more thing...a photo gallery section. Maybe the mods could select and/or approve the pics so it doesn't get too huge. At least make sure everyone at least gets one pic of their junk in there.

I would add the option to view the members belonging to each WF Local. Along with that, I would add to the user cp, the option to be viewed/not viewed in the WF Local list.

I'd like to have more of these available:

Remove the edit restriction.

Me pages, let the users do a simple one page web page about themselves and their rigs.

Another plus 1 for the articles.

A front page news section where select users can post industry, event and legislative news.

I thought about bringing up the edit thing too skeeter, but it does go both ways. I have been on boards with no edit button restrictions, and you get teenagers that say stupid things, go back and erase their post a month later, or change what they said etc. It makes the thread hard to read later on down the road. On the other hand, you have a situation like here, where you have, just for instance, 4 posts in a line from skeeter correcting himself I dont know if theres really a happy medium unless you change it to like 6 hours or something.

I would LIKE to be able to store photos on the site as a supporting member, BUT I know its not feasible and a little too pricey.

I would like a few more sections, say clean up (for us mudders ), maybe a trail fixing section, recovery etc. But that may also make things more complicated.

Would be REALLY cool if we had a GOOGLE map, and our members could enter themselves in it, so we could get a quick glance of how many active members are local to us. This would also allow us to see how many people are close in neighboring states, so we could "cross" WF locals for people on the east. For example, there arent many of us in Maryland at all, a few in PA, and some in NJ. If we had a google map for us, a newbie could glance at it, and say OH ok, maybe they get together at Rauche Creek and look in the NE forum. Just a thought. They arnet hard to setup, and its basically member ran. For a good example of one thats up and running, go to possibly NWS www.bodymod.org At the top, go to community, than Bmod map.

All in all, I think you all have a helluva site, and I think the things mentioned above in previous posts are about all you can do, short of making WF t-shirts/hoodies etc, and make the locals more active somehow.

It's actually fairly easy to deal with that kind of problem when you have good attentive moderators and this place has some of the best I've seen.
BTW, I never correct myself, I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken

I believe we already have that option, I haven't tried it but I remember a thread awhile back where they were talking about it.
I had a script on one of the sites I built called "me pages" I didn't allow local hosting for images but they could build a simple little page and then just remote link their images form an image hosting site., they could do something like that and then offer local image hosting for supporting members as a benefit.

I really like the map idea, that would be cool.

If Cafe Press is still up and running that would be a good way to get shirts n such with WF logos without a large initial investment.

ETA, testing image hosting.

All is good as long as it doesn't take me a month to figure out the new stuff (Easy to use, we are not all IT guys and gals here). I do like the idea of increased edit time, and the google map thing to see where everyone is in general.

I like the idea of the industry and legislative section. I really like the map idea. I would like to see a section for trail fixes. that would help us older newbies.
just my 2 cents

There are only about 4 or 5 of us Arkansas guys, so what fun is that?

No problem guys, I'll see if I can't rename it. I personally like google maps better, but I just couldn't figure them out. If Kyle or Donnie or that other guy wants to move the thread and rename it, it's all good. The map looks lonely with all the pins in Cali anyways.

I like the map idea. I wish that when your sig or avatar changed it was not retroactive...When I go back to look for something, it makes it harder, plus, it's neat to see growth in the threads....

make WF more international. i had to choose one of your states over there because germany wasn´t in the list.

a user-map would be great.

and a small place where the users can write a bit about their jeeps and themselves and where they can show a few pics. perhaps that would make the signatures much smaller. in some threads over 1/2 of the site is filled with extra long signatures. that´s not cool in my opinion.

Looks good. I kinda pictured it being its own "section" in the same area as TJ/YJ/CJ so it was a little easier to find, but I suppose people will stumble upon it Atleast the stickies have their own section and wont hog up a whole page

I'm afraid it'll be lost as a sub forum. Maybe give it it's own link up at the top or some such.
