If this, than that...

Now, I personally have no stance on gun control. I am neither for it or against it. That being said..

Lets assume that the 2nd Amendment did not exist, it never existed, and it never will exist.

My question is:

What would be your arguments for and for not being able to carry firearms or be in the possession of firearms (LEO officers exempt).

Again, let me reiterate, I am no for or against gun control. I am just curious. This wont be the only If this, than that thread.

2. Don't ride the fence you'll get splinters.

I am afraid we would not be able to make an argument for it. Governments who do not fear the citizens being able to protect themselves from intrusions of their rights by either criminals or even the government do not have a good track record in the last century.

Our founding fathers knew this and that is why it does exist and why we should make sure it continues to exist.

See this...

Quote:
In 1929 the Soviet Union established gun control.
- From 1929 to 1953, approximately 20 million
dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded
up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control.
- From 1915-1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to
defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938.
- From 1939 to 1945, 13 million Jews, gypsies,
homosexuals, the mentally ill, and others, who were
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935.
- From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964.
- From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to
defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970.
- From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to
defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956.
- From 1975 to 1977, one million "educated" people,
unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated.

That places total victims who lost their lives because
of gun control at approximately 56 million in the last
century.

I'd say you covered it pretty well, besides, as a free man, with or without government sanction, I have the God given right to defend that which I own from being taken from me. Period. If you try to harm my family or my property, know full well before hand you may well need to defend your actions with your life.

X2!

Even if guns were banned, I can assure I would still have at least one hidden somewhere ready and waiting.

Um - the real world is dangerous. People try to victimize and kill each other with surprising regularity. Personally owned firerarms are about the best insurance from victimization you can have. The police and military cannot protect most of the people most of the time - I know. Trust me. Your personal protection is your personal responsibility, and your personal right. No government should think they "give" that right to you, or have the ability to take it away (as long as you are playing nice within our society). It's pretty simple. If bad guys can get guns (and they can), then good guys should have them.

That was AWESOME! Good for him! He tried to get away from the guys and they harassed him and followed him. However, he was wrong to take the camera, he should have just taken the tape as evidence. But he was justified in drawing a weapon on the guy with the bat. Had that man not had a gun, things might have been VERY bad for them.

People fall into one of three categories; wolves (the preditors), sheep (the victims) and sheepdogs (the protectors). Pick which one you want to be or the wolves will pick for you. I'm a LEO in CA. Our gun laws are tuff. Despite this, we have huge numbers of gun related crimes. Gun control only keeps law abiding citizens from getting guns.

Yeah... Nothing will be solved by the implementation of nationwide gun control. In fact, things will probably get worse. It will only open a venue for people from outside the country to make even more money from illegal firearms! And more violent crime to help pay for the guns.

How about taking the money from useless programs and using it to hire, equip and train police officers and implement stiffer penalties for criminals? Use the death penalty.

Do you know when your life is put in danger?

Could you tell when your Mother's, Father's, Brother's, Sister's, Wife's, Husband's, Child's life was in danger?

I bet you could.

If the threat was from another person threatening your or their lives'; would you want to yell at them and say you're calling 911?

Or would you rather have a gun on your hip, be able to draw it, and stop the person?

A gun is the only thing I can think of that will put a 80 year old person on the same playing field as a 200 pound 18 year old attacker. If there were no guns in the world a young man or woman in the best shape they could be in would able to inflict much more damage to another than your 80 year old grandmother. Just my 2 cents.
