If you owned Jeep

With the recent talks about Daimler selling off Chrysler and if you where able to buy the Jeep brand what would you do with it?

I would

1. Stop producing the commander.
2. Include a V-8 option in the wrangler
3. Keep the compass but make it more of a Ralleye type vehicle
4. start production of a JKL based pickup truck immediatly!

First thing I would do is make some sort of full-sized vehicle with a deisel option to use as a tow vehicle.

A V-8 option would be great for Jeeps, but would have to come with at LEAST Dana 44's, and most likely 60's to avoid too heavy of warranty cost. (But I would SOOOO buy one! )

I like the rally car idea... This is one area that Jeep has not gotten into in the offroad world, and I am a little surprised. Could offer a turbo version of it to compete with the WRX... How much fun would that be?

1. I'd still make the Commander but I would make it larger.
2. V-8 AND Deisel in the Wrangler.
3. I'm good with a Jeep rally but it doesn't necessarily have to replace the Compass.
4. Both a JK based Gladiator and a Commander SUT.
5. A mini Wrangler - back to the sizes of the old flattys or a sammy.

I have a jeep, I don't need a corporation to worry about. I'd have to get up in the morning and actually get dressed in something presentable and I just can't have that.

No no no, Tiny. You'd have assistants for all of the corporate stuff. You could still live off the money on a beach somewhere. You'd just be getting a constant flow of money.

This thread is kinda like a "What would you do if you won the lottery" thread. Good fun.

Oh yeah, I'd add a diesel option for all jeep vehicles.

I'd go with a higher torque 4 cylinder option for the Wrangler, instead of the diesel option. Not a diesel fan, at least until a more usable bio-diesel is made. I want fuel available whereever I go. I'm sure there are better things that can be done with a 4 banger.
Make a geared up version of the Wrangler available for those who want that sort of thing. Why not produce a version with 4.56's to start with? Why not make the Dana 44 affordable stock, instead of a higher cost option ? Don't produce a "street" version of a Wrangler. Keep it just for the off-road enthusiest market. Have an "intro" version (affordable) of the Wrangler that is ready for all of the upgrades as a person is able to add them that is already a "trail rated" quality vehicle, instead of a "mall ready" vehicle. the Liberty is already "cute", no need to make the Wrangler that way also. If you need a 4 door, know that you don't need a Wrangler.

Ok, I'm a bitterman. But this is a fantasy thread................

I like the rallye vehicle idea, why is the most capable off road vehicle brand in the world not represented @ Dakar...Also there are enough Soccer Mom cars out there, do we really need more? How about a new Jeep with no plastic or carpet, nothing that the weather could hurt, bare bones but at least D44's, locked, stock? Ah man, that was getting me a little excited! started to dream about a trail by the river.......

I'd offer one ton chevy axles under them stock. I'd offer a big V8 option. I'd beef up the roll cage and paint it a chevy color. I'd also offer a better cup holder.

The grand cherokee is supposed to get a diesel engine option for 2008.

Would you put a bow tie on it too? Maybe Z71 on the rear corner?

The Commander will be dead after 2008. It took away some of the Grand Cherokee sales but didn't produce enough. I donno about a V8, maybe a 4.7L, but a better V6 is deffinatly needed. I like the idea of a Rally Compass. When the Compass concept came out a few years ago it was of a "Pocket Rocket" style and that intriqued me... with the AWD feature thats another coolthing. And with the possibility of a Calibur SRT-4 with the Turbo 4cyl out of the Neon SRT-4... I think the Compass would be one badass street Jeep. And with the right suspension it could be a sweet rally car. Thats my favorite idea! And yes, the Jeep Gladiator needs to be made! If it were full-size and had the appeal of the Nissan Titan, I'd be one of the first in line!

Actually, the Commander is selling quite well. The compass on the other hand...

I would probably

-Get rid of the Compass, and Commander
-Begin production on the Gladiator or a newly designed J-10
-Begin production on a diesel wrangler.

Just a few thoughts

to be honest I would keep all of the models that were making money, even if it was the commander or whatever else,

and make a diesel wrangler, a wrangler truck, and an amazingly capable off road vehicle like a TJ/YJ/CJ and use the profits from the other models to make the other hard core jeeps available to everyone!!!

or maybe just keep that $$$$ to myself and make a museum of every yr. and model jeep/willys/amc completely restored!!

Anyone else notice the leaf springs in the rear of these?

Still not a "full size". I mean at least a half ton, but preferably a 3/4-1 ton vehicle.

Big body Cherokee, with a 360, a grand Wagoneer with a 390. I would have to add these to my personal want list if I owned Jeep. Or a redesign of the old style ORIGINAL SUV's.

Test mules for the Egyptian Army. They currently have factory stretched TJs running rear leafs and these JKs are the prototypes for their replacements. Pretty cool really.
