If You Remember These, You Might be an Old Fart

If you've ever turned the door handle one direction to lock the door, and the other direction to open it, you might be an old fart...

If you remember vacuum wipers, you might be an old fart...

If you know what 3 on the tree is, YMBAOF...

If you've ever set a set of points with a match book, YMBAOF...

If you know how to reset the mechanical push buttons to a new station on a Chevy radio, YMBAOF...

If you know what a Quadrajet is...Ditto

Keep it going

If you've ever pushed the lock button down, then held the button in on the outside door handle and closed the door to lock it, YMBAOF

If you remember only needing the ignition key (the square one, not the round one) to put the ignition to "lock", YMBAOF...

If you could start a pick up by pushing a large button on the floorboard, YMBAOF.
If you paid allot of money to get a Kraco 8 track tape deck, YMBAOF.
You remember watching a young reporter in a rice patty named Dan Rather......
If you couldn't shift your vacuum transmission because it was cold (needed to warm up......
If you switched to your high beams by pushing on a different button on the floorboard......
My favorite - you can remember when you had hair on you head and no gray.

If you remember you didn't want to be the one to sit on the "hump".....
If you remember actually driving around, legally, in the back of a pick-up....
If you remember having to choose between regular and unleaded....

Wow, I remember many of the things already listed. However, I don't consider myself an old fart. Age is just a number - it's how you feel inside.

Anyway...

When you had to turn a dial instead of push buttons to make a phone call...

If you lived in the city and you could walk several blocks to the store as a little kid by yourself and still be safe...

When milk was delivered in glass bottles to your front porch...

When air conditioning in a car was a luxury instead of a necessity...

When whitewall tires were common...

I'll come up with some more later.

Ok this is a memory blaster WOW
I can not only recall most above but remember driving most of it
My first Chevy you could take the key out of the ign and it was on the dash not on the column and never needed it again it had stop-run&start
We never locked anything nothing was ever missing if it rained your neighbor came over and closed your windows sorry bit off topic
I waited in line to get gas odd even days and only permitted 5 gallons at 35cenrs per
School bus driver took the entire buss load of kids to DQ last several days of school and all parents thanked him (no lawyers needed)

If you used two cranks on the car door, one to roll down the window, and one to open the triangular vent window, YMBAOF

If you've ever tilted down a license plate to fuel the car, YMBAOF

If you've ever had to remove a skirt to change a tire, YMBAOF

YMBAOF if you remember taking pop bottles back to the store for a refund and using the change to buy candy.

If there was more aluminum foil on the tv rabbit ears than on the role in the kitchen.

If you went to the drive in as a family and played at the playground without the fear of being abducted.

If you had only three tv channels (ABC,CBS,NBC). And you had to actually get out of your chair to change the channel.

If your B&W tv had pliers on the channel knob. Oh wait, that a "you might be a redneck thing."

There was no air bags and no one wore seat belts.

If you didn't wear a bike helmet and could ride your bike all day without your parents worrying about you.

At a Standard Oil Station, regular gas $.17 a gal, Premium gas $.19 a gallon.
Quart of oil, for 30 cents.
Coca Cola in a bottle for 5 cents.
Full service gas stations, fill up your tank, check your oil and water, air your tires, and wash your windshield.
Alcohol was used in your cooling system.
Your car was either painted in lacquer, or enamel.
I converted my 57 Chevy to a close ratio 4-speed trans, with Hurst linkage.
3 duce's for carburation, with progressive linkage.
Dual 4s for carburation.
Tune up, points, condenser, plugs, fuel filter, air filter, every 10,000 miles, if you were lucky.
Non detergent engine oil.
You would flush out you engine oil galleys with kerosene.
Steel pack smithy's

I'm so old I don't remember any of those things although my son told me I should. All I do all day is wait for the mail (for my Social Security check) and walk to the garage to work on my jeep. But when I get there I forget what I went there for. So, I go back to the house and check for the mail. I do remember being a sacker at the grocery store and being paid .11 cents an hour. A good tip was .10 cents.

Wearing a coon skin hat with a tail and carrying a play long rifle. Collecting Rat Finks. Laying in that area by the back window of large automobiles.
