yes, if the vehicle is newer than 1986, you must have a third brake light.

I used to live in Alexandria and after getting a ticket for a radar detector (also confiscated), I bought another and disassembled it. I mounted the detector panels to the front grill and rear bumper. Installed the light bar in my dash under the radio and wired the chirping speaker into my car's speakers.

Pretty clever, except here in KS some of the State Troopers have radar detector detectors! ;-)

Oh wow. That's got to suck. I don't worry about speeding in the TJ though. Hell, I have a good time trying to get it up to 70 haha

lol we have detector/detectors as well. however, i never use it. it's more fun to keep the radar on hold then activate it and watch people slam on their brakes lol

That!

I'd do it all the time when I worked in VA then asked for the detector.

So the third brake light HAS to be operational? Here as long as two work it's OK. When I went 33's, I didn't like running the stock spare because it looked stupid as hell, so I took off the spare mount and third BL.

yeah man. there is actually a code section just for the third brake light. although i have never actually used it, it's a legit stop. don't forget your rear license plate lights :-)

I just use the app Waze. Usually pretty good about cop and hazard locations.

OK... So it is or is NOT illegal. I've got one buddy saying if it's mounted it has to work, but if it's not there then as long as the main two work your good without it.. I've got an aftermarket spare tire carrier that has OE third brake light and looks like complete shit bc it sits way up.. Almost like I've got a tail.

it is illegal to run with out. because your jeep came with one from the factory, you are required to have one.

i would say, run the ugly looking thing you already have for now, while you look around and come up with a solution that you find to be more pleasing.

No opinions...

I had a new spare carrier/bumper installed for 33's. The mechanic said you don't need a third brake light, but if you have one it has to work. I've had many LEO's behind me and never been pulled over.... Watch now as I say this & get pulled over. Will let you know.

You're very welcome. I couldn't imagine trying to memorize the whole legislative code.

Sometimes I tell them to press hard, the old ladies at the Court House have trouble reading it. but only if they have been a smart@$$ with me. Generally I get a "thank you" we we are done with our "roadside meet and greet."
