to jailbreak it, goto www.jailbreakme.com on the itouch or iphone..once cydia is on the app screen google how to install installious and their you have it...its not illegal, as a matter of fact the lib of congress enacted an exception in the DMCA so that the itouch/iphone could be jail broke.

I was so happy they passed that. For droids and iPhones alike. I know it really steamed Jobs' clams, but oh well. The only thing I'm not thrilled about is the lack of OTA updates. Also read that with the CDMA version, the death grip was fixed. Oh man, the choices!

You have to give it to droids though. They have made leaps and bounds with the quality of their apps and the app market place. I am excited for the Google app store to go to live soon.

and now verizon is scrapping many of the hardware discount deals they had going, just to bring over the iphone. Verizon quietly scraps "new every two" credit - Jan. 13, 2011

from the sounds of it, the new every 2 may be going away, but they are still offering incentives after 10 or 20 months completed in a new contract.

"A simpler program is being introduced to replace the 10-year-old 'new every two' and annual upgrade programs," Verizon Wireless said in a written statement. "Customers who sign up for service on or after January 16 will still be eligible to upgrade their devices at current promotional prices well before their contract expires -- after 10 months on one-year contracts, after 20 months on two-year contracts."

So if I've been with them for the past 8 years, they will honor my upgrade one last time, and then what? Am i reading this right? I'm sure they will be offering some type of discount for current customers. That has always annoyed me beyond words when companies, ATT, Dish, DirecTV, Verizon, etc etc , would always give the good deals to new customers, but would take a steamer on existing. I hope this doesnt turn out the be the latter one.

But at least they are still offering the unlimited data, for now at least.

I'm sure V will be fine on the data for a long time, after all the 4G works on a totally different band than anyone else so it will free up what data is on the 3G for the influx of I-phones. Hell with the CDMA network already they have more than enough bandwidth for every single I-phone already in service.

I finally got an Android several months ago and left Verizon to do it due to Verizon's insanely expensive data plan. After 24 years with Verizon, I left and went to Sprint and got an unlimited everything plan for $69.95 a month. Coverage is not an issue, Sprint bought so many carriers over the past several years that they now actually have more towers than Verizon does. So far, I don't miss Verizon in the least.

I can also say this, that the ability to talk on my Android while surfing the web, looking up my contacts, getting emails, etc. is way cool. I don't envy iPhone users in the least.

The fallout I see from Verizon getting the iPhone is that AT&T is going to take a nosedive in sales. With all the bad press AT&T's network performance has gotten over the years including current comments about their service, I think AT&T stock holders are in trouble.

I think AT&T will either nosedive or be forced to upgrade their services/prices..I have AT&T but only because where I live Verizon does not get as good of service. When my contract runs out this November I am going to look into changing to Verizon (If AT&T doesn't improve customer service/prices)

Are you sure about the fact sprint owns more towers? That certainly isn't the case as I have seen/heard. Here in the show me state if you have sprint, you better be in a urban area or you no talkie lol

Fact of the matter is 80 percent of the towers that cell carriers use are not owned by them at all. They are either owned by individuals, tower companies, or radio/tv stations.

Working where I do has it's perks with Verizon. I just checked my usage for this month... 11.56GB of data.

Apple has already said it will not make design compromises to allow the iPhone to ever function on their LTE network so you'll be on 3G like ATT users

True but they have never broken into the business market as globally their phones do not adapt to other networks very quickly as they evolve much quicker in Asia markets then in the U.S. I can go from Hong Kong to Shanghai then to Singapore then to EU and no problem with ATT, Verizon is a different story.

Ummmm I think your better research that a bit more. One of my best friends does business in japan, china, and taiwan and travels there several times a year. If you get a global verizon phone it has a sim card just like the others and it works on gsm when overseas.

I have Sprint and a HTC EVO. Unlimited everything, free hotspot.18% work discount on my entire bill and free mobile to mobile for any mobile phone. So I don't need a 5 favorite circle or rollover mins. I'll never use more than 50 mins.

And i don't need a sim card since my phone is backed up through my gmail account.

I also know that in the mountains where my cabin is, sprint is the only cell network that has functional data connection.

ATT has crap service and Verizon put to great of an investment into this iPhone crap. $400 million or so. So the better hope they sale about 13 million? To break even? The iPhone has been put on a pedestal and people buy it just to have the over glorified iPhone. Most iPhone owners are bat crap stupid and have no idea why they own it other than they are told to. Similar to the presidential election, people followed suit without knowing why other than it was the "popular" or "cool" thing to do.

Apple tells the iPhone owners when and where to scratch their rear end... and then will charge them for them to be able to tell them to do it.
Heck, Apple decided they didn't want a wifi sniffer on the app store... they removed it. No debate, voting, or anything. Apple does what they want and will charge you for evening breathing near the iPhone.... iPhone oxygen app: iAir.
Many of the same apps on the android market are actually free where Apple will take the app and charge subscribers for it.

And people really still wonder why the Android market passed the Apple market? The iPhone is not, nor was it ever, worth it.

The sim card is not for storing numbers (it can). The sim card is kind of like the key to your car... try going for a ride without it sometime... It is what tells the network you can access it. thats your access card...

Yes, I know. I was covering the common comment that people use when they mention their sim card and saving their numbers. Ha ha ha. Since the first year of Cingular and the use of sim cards, I had been a customer, up until this last December.

I used the sim card in more phones than I can count. While convenient, not worth it in the long run, in my opinion.

But hey, people do need to be apple fanboys since that's that only way to assist in keeping a competitive market. And that is a market the rest of us gain from.
