Iraq / Afgan

Did you see today, the only thing Barrack and McCain agree on is that we need to pull the troops out of Iraq and redploy them to Afganistan.

I know theres alot of military on this forum, what do you think about that?

i agree with it, the hostility of iraq has definitly calmed and afghanistan needs our assistance now. Iraq now has a better government than they did when we first invaded and with our support by training new police and security it should be a better place than before, while afghanistan is still hostile. I think we would be doing more good in afghan at the moment and see how iraq handles with out so much of our support, nevertheless we will always have troops in iraq since we have all thse bases and have invaded tham but we do not need near as many. In my personal opinion i thinkwe should just nuke it all and drill through glass for oil...

I was in high school during 911. I don't remember if I had one of my camaros than, or my 1993 s10 blazer, 2wd 4.3 vortech, but I got suspended from school for that. A few days after 911 I drew a picture of a mushroom cloud on my back window, and wrote "Bomb the #%^#@$#S, turn sand into glass!" School told me I had to take it off my window, because it "embarssed the school in the parking lot." Needless to say, I just took the suspension.

I tried to read that article on my palm phone yesterday, but every single site I clicked on to read it, it would re direct me to some other story. Apparently the news reports of Obama saying he wanted to pull from Iraq and win afgahnistan got pulled from news sites..

I can attest to the fact that Afghanistan is a busy place for the insurgents. As for nuking the place.......don't say that until you've had a chance to look into the eyes of a starving kid whose only crime was to be born into a violent country. I couldn't care less about the adults in Afghanistan, they're so steeped in customs and traditions that we'll never see a change in this generation. It's the kids that are the future of that country. It's really easy to say "Nuke it, we'll drill through glass for oil" when you've never been deployed there, but alot harder to say that when you've seen what a war-ravaged country is doing to its next generation of kids.

I'm not busting anyone's chops here, you are more than entitled to an opinion, I'm just saying that a bomb won't make the problems go away. Also, there was a time when I agreed with you about turning the middle east into a parking lot, so I know where you're coming from in a sense.

i understand the fact that the children are the future and have no choice in how they are, i wish we could just round up the bad in the countries and rid of it, then allow the younger to start over with a clean plate...im sure i will have even a beter understandig once i get over their i have no doubt, hopefully ill be in afghan by christmas thats what the rumor is but i wont find out until i get to my new unit, i have volunteered three tiems my name just always seemed to get passed over

Coudn't agree more. Very exciting watching kids get to go to school for their first time, how they light up just getting their own school supplies. But I know I bring up the nukes now and then too, probably more out of spite for the bad guys who blew my friends up I guess. I think the majority of them want to give democracy a try but i think the fact that their religion come first over-all may never let it happen. But then I got to participate directly in their first two elections in 2005, so who knows. Stood face to face with Al Sadr troops while we picked up election officials in down-town Basrah. Showed me they were interested in the process, not the fight. of course, they just had to flinch wrong and it would have been on.
