Jeep took away way too much of the things the wrangler is known for with the JK!!!
If this is your big concern for the day you obviously need to go find something more productive to do. Go wheel your "real" jeep or something and stop trolling.

I had a 1980 CJ7 when the Wrangler came out in 87. The hatred from the CJ crowd was real. If the internet had been like today, it might not have survived.

The CJ, which had been around since the 40's had been discontinued. It was now called a Wrangler. The headlights were square. It was lower and the ride was softened. It was designed to appeal more to the main stream. It became more car like and even had a dash board.

Here's the thing. I think that Jeeps should stick to a certain basic design. I don't mind the 4 doors but what I do mind is the ridiculous color matched hardtops that clearly are made to appeal to former Hummer owners. The interior of these Jeeps will probably never see the light. These particular JK's are absolutely ugly IMO. I also don't care for the carryover Dodge push button door handles...just something else to get knocked off. I also don't care for the additional width of the body.

I do have to admit that the blue behemoth that Jeep threw out there a few months ago was pretty gnarly!

My opinion is that if you like it, great. I don't. But for goodness sake, if you are going to put your butt in the seat of something with the Jeep Wrangler name, at least do it proud and quit hiding behind the A/C and tinted windows....

...AND WAVE!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHA!

The way you describe it seems analagous to the points of contention regarding the switch from tj to jk: redesigned grill and interior, softer ride, more mainstream and more car-like. The models might change, the complaints stay the same, but a wrangler by any other name would wheel as sweet. Thank you for sharing your perspective, tom.

I never considered owning a Wrangler until my neighbor bought a TJ Rubicon. They were starting to look like real Jeeps again. When the JK came out it sealed the deal. It looked different enough from the YJ/TJ for me to own one again.

The only places I see the hate is on the forums or when Im around guys who think what ever they own is the best jeep ever.
The guys runing 4's and 5's dont care what kind of jeep it is just as long as it dosent break down alot and clog the trail and you are willing to wheel it.
On one trail there was a broke down fj in front of us and now way around so we had to just chill out for a bit. It was funny cause I had 3 other folks siting in my jeep under a shade tree with the ac on and watching a dvd. (yes top and doors were off) These guys were driving tj's on 42/44's but they all said how they wish they had "jeeps" like mine.

My point is in my exp the only people that I really know that hate on JK' s are not what I would call "Jeepers" . You cant hate on them cause so many are mallcrawlers cause I see lots of every other jeep all shiny and clean in town all the time.

A pic of my ride. Maby one day I will break down and get me a real jeep.?.

Funny how the JK owners are getting mad because not everyone shares thier opinion, If you own a JK you shouldnt need anyones approval to make you feel better about it, you dont need anyone else to understand why you bought it or why you like it, it isnt their decision or money, its yours, this thread isnt about convincing anyone of anything, you like them or you dont, you own one or you dont, it doesnt matter to anyone here who likes what or who owns what, we are all Jeepers and you can bet that even the guys who dont like them will wheel with you and winch you if you get stuck, help you if you break, spot you if you need it, and share their lunch with you if your hungry, why? Because your a Jeeper, thats why, as we all are, no one is hating on you, some people dont like JKs, some do, some people dont like anything you do, but we all have "Jeep" on our titles, and therefore we are all in this together, no matter what model we drive, if your in a JK or a YJ or a TJ, CJ ZJ or whatever, hell even the FJ guys can count on me to help because I'm an off-road guy with a Jeep.

Looks like we more or less have the same mind set. I dont care who or what I go out with just as long as I am out there.

I share this exact sentiment.

And us JK/JKU owners will gladly rescue your tail when you need a hand, a winch, or a spot. We'll run to the grocery store and get food to share, and let you play with our sporting equipment if you're bored waiting for a tow truck. Heck, we'll even take you and a few buddies - AND your gear - to a different location, if you want. We're cool like that.

I love my JK. It's my first Jeep. I don't care what model it is. "IT'S MY JEEP" Who cares if someone else doesn't like it, or any other model of Jeep. Buy what you like, and wave at everyone else in a Jeep. THEY ARE ALL JEEPS..... Now go outside, take the top off, take the doors off, and enjoy the fresh air.

Carry on.

It's just you... the JK saved the Jeep line and kept the Wrangler alive. Look at resale value and sales numbers... no previous Jeep has done that. I love all Wranglers, but there is no denying that vehicles either adapt and change or die... the Jeeps have adapted and changed enough to keep up on the 21st century while keeping the same look and capabilities of the original Jeeps. Look at the new Mustangs, Camaros, Malibus, etc... They are nothing like the originals. I think Jeep has done a great job of staying balanced.

Not at all. He and I had been talking about how the YJ was received when it first came out and replaced the CJ, that CJ folks hated the YJ. When dag made that comment I think he only meant that YJ folks understand what it is to be hated on, so it blows his mind if they hate on a newer model, that's all.
