Is it just me or has the JK ruined the wrangler line?

I love the JK, but not in the way I like wranglers. The aftermarket for the JK seems to be all about big chrome wheels and being flashy. The JK is more like the Mercedes "box" suv than previous wranglers to me. They dont seem like they are designed to ever see dirt and it's a bunch of Ed hardy wearing guys driving them around.

Jeep took away way too much of the things the wrangler is known for with the JK!!!

Love that jeep!!!! But, it has a feel more like a hummer or something than a wrangler to me. I'm into all types of vehicles, but it just doesn't scream "wrangler" to me

Must be you. I don't have any problems taking my 2010 off-road. It is just as capable as the other jeeps I wheel with. What a lot of people seem to forget is that most jeeps never see any time off-road, so Chrysler/Fiat is doing what most companies should do, they are responding to the market.

When they had the original Willy- they ruined it with the "soft" civilian CJ. When they changed from a CJ to a YJ- they ruined the Jeep. When they changed from a YJ to the TJ they ruined Jeep. When they changed from a TJ to a JK they ruined the Jeep.
Get the idea? I've had a TJ and now a JK. When I had my "new" TJ - it got ripped on as not being a "true" Jeep too. Pick the one you like and call it a day. Or a call it a Jeep- or "THE One & Only Jeep" if you feel better.
All Jeep models are still NOT the same SUV/tall car/cross-over/lame excuse for a vehicle that all the non-Jeepers are driving. We all still have the same mental health issues as shown by the crazy, rockin' lady with the Green Machine.

Yup, totally ruined it. Sold more units than any Jeep prior, so yeah, it's just a worthless piece of s*** with a Jeep stamp on it. Can't believe those idiots at Chrysler would do such a thing.....b******* they are!!!

Couldn't agree with you more. I've told myself that I need to stop being so stubborn and be open to others opinions. You've actually changed my view. Thanks!

It all depends on how it is done up. I am sure we could all dig up pics of all years of Jeeps that were done in ways we don't like.

A Wrangler will NEVER fall into the "SUV" crowd. SUV = Small Useless Vehicle.

Oh for the love of Pete! Are we going to have this discussion and hate on the JK everywhere on the forum???

Mods- can you create one particular section just for JK Hating so everyone can have the same frustrating discussion all in one place? It can even have its own threads about different things people don't like. It's SO overdone. Like my mom's meatloaf.

I feel a nervous tic coming on...

I don't hate the JK, the aftermarket guys are making so much from you it keeps the earlier model parts cheap.

That being said, I agree to a point that they left out something crucial to a wrangler on the JK, most long time Jeep enthusiasts agree Jeep lost their way with the YJ but redeemed themselves with the TJ, agree or not its a popular opinion.

The fact is, the MJ, CJ, YJ and TJ all have 2 doors and deep door sills, easily folded down windshields and steel bumpers, sorry, the JK, no matter how much money you through at it, is an SUV that looks like something os obviously missing when the doors are off (like a Cherokee)

Sorry, just my opinion.

Drove the Army jeeps 30 odd years ago when I was in the Army...and while the old '94 YJ I had, and my current TJ and/or my JK are not the same as the other--or that old Army Jeep, to me it is that they are "improvements" of the best purpose built vehicle ever made.

And I see them that way...I will change there purpose eventually...TJ is no longer the "long tripper" it once was. That's the JKs job now!

Ruined?

No

New Direction?

Yes

I don't blame a company for wanting to broaden their customer base. Not everyone wants to drive a truck you have to un-zip the windows (I do but that's another matter). I have a Mustang Convertable I ordered from the factory in 1983 and each design change since 1964 people have said the same thing. This is the nice thing about living in our society, we have more flavors to choose from. To each their own.

At least we aren't living in Soviet East Germany when all we could drive was a Trabant!

I once took my JK on a dirt patch at the mall. It was awesome!
Too bad it took me so long to clean off the spinners after that.... never again!
