It's Official!!!!

As of 3:00PM EST 20090123, I'm officially enlisted in the NJ Army National Guard!

I got my 11Bravo position, and my ship date to Ft. Benning, GA is March 18th.

After almost a year of bullcrap and 3 different recruiters, it finally happened!

I have to say though, the whole "Hurry up and wait" thing with the Army already has me irritated. I got to MEPS at Ft. Hamilton at 3AM and didn't leave till almost 4PM, but alas, I'm officially PVT. Flood!

Congrats. Remember, you're not a PVT until you graduate Basic.

Don't be first, don't be last, and don't volunteer for ANYTHING. That being said, if you give 100% to your Drill Sergeants, they'll know it, and if you don't, they'll know it. Also keep in mind that whatever they say, whatever they do.......it's not personal. Just business. As long as you don't take it personally, you'll make it through without a chip on your shoulder.

Congratulations and we all thank you for standing up in a time of war and raising your right hand to defend the freedoms we all enjoy. Be proud.

You've got a couple of months before you ship out to Benning. My suggestion is to take that time and get yourself into shape. Even if you think you're in shape, make yourself train even harder. I used to be a professional dive instructor (still am, only I'm not actively teaching) and thought I was in excellent shape.......until I got to Alpha Co, 2/54 with the rest of the 18X/11B Airborne recruits. THAT was an eye-opener!! Make yourself run everyday....Eleven-Bravos put the Bravo into the 11 series and we run ALL the time. Push-ups........get used to them. Make friends with doing push-ups, because you'll be doing THOUSANDS in 11B training.

As long as you're willing to push yourself everyday, then Infantry Basic Training will be fun. It's hard. There will be times you want to give up, but you won't, because your buddies are depending on you. You'll learn what teamwork is really about. There will be days when you wonder what the hell you got yourself into, but then there will be days when you're rocking the .50 cal Ma Deuce with a giant grin on your face wondering how the rest of the population puts on ties and goes to an actual office everyday when there's this much fun to be had blowing $h!t up.

There are a bunch of us military types on the board, as you know, and we're all happy to answer any questions you have. As Scout likes to say......"We're here to help."

Congratulations again, YJ...........you made a good choice...You'll make friends that you'll never forget.

Thanks for your service! All our military personnel past and present deserve our utmost respect and gratitude.

It's one of my biggest regrets that i never served in the military. In January of 1973 I got my draft number - 49 - which meant I was destined for Viet Nam infantry. Nixon stopped the draft and started troop withdrawal before I got shipped. It was such a big "Wheeew" for me that I never ended up joining.

Stay safe and God Bless!

Thank you very much everyone, and I'm glad I made the decision to join up. I'm stoked about leaving, and my goal is to lose another 20lbs before leaving. I didn't have to do the ARMS test for the physical, and I'm really happy about that, so the next 20 should be easier than the last 60 lol.

I'm smoking my last cigarette as I'm typing, giving myself time to adjust without nicotine.

If I have any questions, I'll be sure to message Joe Dirt or Cave.

Thank you all again
