Not me. I see it as a bad thing for PC gaming. It's basically trying to make PC games have more of a console feel. It's just another cop out for lazy/greedy game developers to get away with sh**ty unoptimized console ports. I'm tired of PC games that say to press the green A button or have clunky menu screens or even require a controller to play (State of Decay...doesn't support KB/mouse...the fuk!?). So no I won't be using it. If I wanted a console I'd buy one.

I'm not so sure that Valve is trying to dumb PC gaming down, I think they're trying to woo over the console gamers that refuse to get into PC gaming because of simplicity, costs of a gaming PC vs a console, etc. Essentially they're trying to make PC gaming attractive to both the hardcore PC gamer as well as the console gamer by combining the two into one platform. So if you want to play with a gamepad, you can. Or if you want to play with a keyboard and mouse, you can do that too. And being on a PC, the developers no longer have to scale up the graphics from the limitations of a console. The dev will end up making the game with the highest fidelity in the first place and scaling down based on limited hardware, really the opposite.

Ultimately I see this as a good thing. It takes the best things about PC gaming and adds in the best things about console gaming without forcing the two to merge.

For PC gaming I've always hated the idea of oh now I have to figure out exactly what update I need for my custom setup. Steam brought me back to the pc. Now I've setup my pc and Xbox on the same monitor. I like having both there so much that I have a new 1080p monitor on the way. Insert disc 1,2,3,4 and so on is a pain. Granted the pc can be far more superior ie. Battlefield pc vs. console. I don't have the time or patience anymore to wrap my self into having every game speced just right for my machine. I want to grab a beer and relax to stabbing hookers and blowing stuff up.
As far as games being released, the pc is a general platform compared to Sony and Microsoft having big financial backing for contracts. Look how long it took for gta iv to go to Xbox. Money.

The dumbing down of pc gaming is nothing new. The developers have to work arround the wide spread, and consoles are mainstream and wide spread. If anything I think the steam os could be a good thing if it catches on wildly because they can optimize it better for that then trying to work arround 3 seperate windows opperating systems and their various service pack levels and osx. Taking away variables makes things easier.

Played PC BF4 beta yesterday... its not bad, has some serious issues though. Driver issues with graphics, lag, fps too low....
On the other side, lots of nice things. Graphics I would say are just slightly better than BF3 was, but the environment was MUCH more destructive. I drove a tank through a building which was bad ass. The downside is the new vehicle ammo limits. You run out of ammo FAST and then you're a sitting duck waiting for the super long timer to refresh your ammo. Makes it more difficult to just blast into the battle. You really have to plan it out.
Tanks are godly though... but feel more balanced. A main shell wont kill someone unless its a direct hit. 50cals seem weak too. BUT... the damage against other vehicles is good. The RPG's seem like insta-death to tanks too.
Heli's are pretty much the same, if not a little weaker due to the ammo restrictions. The new lock on/targetting is really sweet. Takes a second to launch countermeasures... so
TIP!!!
In a heli... dont fire the heat seekers from any sort of range unless the other pilot has no idea he has countermeasures. Get in REAL close and fire so that you can hit them before their flares pop.

Other than that... sniping.. sucks. Every bullet has a tracer to it and its hard as hell to figure out where its going. Variable scopes are in, even on the low 6x scopes. Scope glint is visible from EVERYWHERE and from long range... so keep your pistol out.
TIP:
Use your laser designator to scan for targets. Its IR with good range. You can see far off, spot someone and then pop the rifle up and pop them without showing scope glint.

Also... just beware, if you are targeting someone (vehicle) with the IR/Laser scopes... their HUD (in the vehicle) will display an indicator of where the person targeting them is.

Other than that.. engi's start off with PDW's which is odd... and makes them useless at any range. Assault is good for range, Support is good for everything. Recon is pretty useless except camping.

New battlelog is nice....

Thats all I can report now. Logging into PS3 version tonight.

Basically the same on Xbox, minus everything looking like it was from 2005 graphics-wise, obviously due to no HD download. As for sniping, it is ALOT easier and simpler than BF3, at least to me personally. It is almost closer to Battlefield Bad Company 2. Cant say I was too pleased with the beta overall, but I'll wait until release to give my real .02

GTA Online should be fixed, slightly. I spent most of my day trying to start the first mission race/tutorial and never got past the loading screens. This morning it worked by deleting and redownloading the update, as well as emptying the cache. Hopped back on and it worked for me. Just throwin out that tip if anyone is still stuck watching loading screens for hours.

Nope. Won't let me past the loading screen, tried on Tuesday. I figured it'll take a week or so to be up.

I played for a couple hours last night. Graphics aren't final but still looked decent. I didn't notice any lag and it seemed more like call of duty when getting shot. The vehicles handle like they are on rails, including tanks. I was able to shoot down a chopper with one shot from an rpg after i found it flying a little low. The new battlelog looks the same but has some upgrades. If you've got dual monitors you can use battlescreen on your other monitor for a full size map that refreshes as the game progresses. I like that they brought the stats back so you can physically see how much better one gun is over the other. Commander mode is disabled but I'm pretty excited that they brought that back, the also made improvements for calling for health, ammo, spotting enemy's, etc. Overall I had a lot more fun with this beta than I have playing bf3 in awhile.

I am with you there. But, I feel like it could just be because I get worse the more realistic these games get!

Hey guys I'm thinking its time to replace my 10yr old Dell speakers. They are showing signs of age but still put out some good sound. Any recommendations? I need to stay under $100 and I want some good Bass for games, movies, and music. I want to hear the Bass outside with the house closed up. The Dells do a good job of that but they are getting old.
Thanks in advance.

I've had my same Logitech speakers for like 9 years lol. They make some good stuff. I'm sure there are other brands too but you can't go wrong with Logitech.

Look for some promedia 2.1 speakers. Great speakers, great bass, should be able to find them arround that price. I have them and really like them. That little sub shakes pictures in my hallway.

Yeah, id second that... BF4 beta has been more fun than BF3 lately. Which says a lot considering its just a single map with most things locked.
