Jeep vs Girlfriend

Ok I honestly do spend alot of time tinkering and messing with my 97 tj. I have been painting the undercarriage, mirrors, fender flares, gas cover, etc. I just always when time is free I like to put my old clothes on and check my fluids and whatever I can think of doing to it. Well my girlfriend has been complaining that we never spend time together except at night. Well I told her she knows I was this way before we got together and I'm not changing. I work fulltime, I have a 9 year old son and when weekends come I have hobbies and things I want to get done. She hates it!!! Am I wrong or what? I'm 31 years old, she is 30. I would rather be home doing something productive then out driving around in traffic, va traffic and spending all my money for a bunch of stuff that isn't needed... She won't talk to me now. I have alot of friends and she has maybe one. I think that's the problem. We each have our own homes. Right now the jeep is winning. The girlfriend may have to go..... Lmbo

We all have the same problem. A jeep is an addiction and we all love to feed it. I love doing things on my jeep, even when I know all the levels and things are good I'll still find a reason to go out to the garage. I've had work out a deal with the wife because of the same reasons. It kinda goes like this, If I spend a weekend with the jeep and all my jeep buddies and club or working on 4x4's I have to spend the following weekend with the wife even if we do nothing at all. It's all about harmony in the household, sometimes we have to put our toys away. I found it also helps if your jeeping buddies bring their wives/girlfriends along it can take a lot of pressure off of us knowing they aren't alone in the house wondering when your going to finish playing with your "toy".

Yeah I was there for most of my life too. When I bought my place about 10 years ago the girl I had at the time wanted me to go out all the time and wanted to know why I needed a shop as big as I did. I tried to make it work but it didn't and after about 6 months she was gone. All I can tell you is keep your options open...the gf I have now lives with me and we have been together for 6 years now. She is out in the shop with me alot of the time and has even learned how to weld to help me do things when mocking up chassis etc. Start going to jeep events and mud parties....that's where you will find the girl for you. Mine wouldn't be caught dead at a mall

It helps if your girl isn't the "High Maintenance" type to begin with. If she is your in for a rough time, they NEVER do anything involving: Dirt, Mud, Grease, Oil, Paint, Dust etc or anything that might possibly break a nail.

Wow. What a tough one. I am sure that in due time, you will know the right decision to make. Not to take any sides, but one of my previous GFs was hounding me before I purchased a rare and pristine Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet, one of only 200 imported into the country. "What do you need a second car for?" Why are you buying it?" "I don't see a need for it, you already have a car." Blah blah blah..... She even did this in front of the seller and made me very uncomfortable, and almost guilty for spoiling myself. At one point, I said "I heard you. But I am not buying the Porsche for you. I am buying it for me. Its always been a dream and now I am going to make that dream come true, so stop complaining." She looks irritated and embarrassed and of course has to get the last word in...."Well I'm just saying....the car won't always be there. The girlfriend will."

I broke up with her about 2 months later. Her constant nagging drove me insane and well, I obviously have fonder memories of the Porsche than I did her. So, trust your instincts. If she complains now, wait until you get married..... LOCKDOWN!!

I sure do love being a Jeep girl.
As girls, it's extremely rare that we have to convince a man that we need parts or that we want to go wheelin and men never complain about the amount of time you spend playing with your Jeep.

OTOH, to the OP, sounds to me like she's the wrong girl for you. Since she isn't speaking to you, go ahead and take advantage of it and smack her in the butt with the door knob.
Find a girl who enjoys the same things that you do. One who is jealous of your Jeep will be jealous of everything else too.

I dumped my girlfiend because she was the same way. It sucks having someone bitch at you because youre doing what you love. Im glad ive learned at a young age that there is plenty more girls. She loved my wrangler but was almost jealous like i was with another girl if i was working on it. My next plan is a girl with a jeep or a badass diesel truck lol.

Doing what you love is one thing, but your family is the most important thing. Try to set up some time for her also. Do some with the jeep, let it be, take her to lunch or whatever then return to the jeep. Life will go so much easier.

WOW I just typed a long but funny response for you but accidently hit the back button Oh well. To sum it up, cut your losses now before your in too deep and looking at her taking the Jeep in divorce proceedings! Then you'd need to talk to O.J or Drew Peterson for advice

I had that problems with previous girlfriends being jealous of my jeep. The one I have now is jealous that I have a jeep and wants one. She begs me to take her wheeling and when I am working on it shes right there to keep me company and hand me the wrenches. Hell I even taught her basic stuff so far like oil changes, changing the diff fluids, t-case fluid, tranny fluid and filter how to adjust bands the tv cable. She knows my jeep as good as I do and I couldn't be happier with her. Try to include her, tell her you want to do a project on the jeep with her and afterwards take her out wheeling and to lunch. See how she likes it and if she doesn't go for that it doesn't sound like the right gal for you.

Well she finally got over it. I guess she realized I didn't care much if she was mad or not. Lol... Don't get me wrong, I kinda cared but, I had things I wanted to do and I set my foot down. I don't wanna sound like a dick. Because I'm a very polite and friendly guy. But I think that she just found out how it's gonna be when I have my mind set on doing something. Especially with my jeep. I figure the next argument we will have is when I'm putting on my new rear bumper with tire carrier, windshield lights, front bumper with winch, and rock sliders. Oh she is gonna love this. If she makes it through all of my projects, well then she's a keeper. I'm thinking of taking her down to the outer banks in north Carolina for a ride on the beach. Maybe she will understand a little better. Besides her suzuki yaris would barely make it through a mud puddle.... Lol... I love her though.....

Dumped my man over a year ago because I got tired of him complaining about my rig. It actually goes both ways sometimes guys lol. Then, since there are not that many female jeepers finding somebody that wasn't in my circle of current jeeper friends was a tricky one. Guys not into this thought I was just freakin crazy. I even tried dating guys with mud trucks from which I heard --- you drive this Jeep someplace then beat the hell out of it and expect to drive it home--YES!!!

Kick her to the curb, you will find the right one. Took me awhile but I found the one for me

Both will rust with age and get broken in and looser as time goes on. Take much care of both and they will take care of you.

It's give and take. My Jeeps don't come before my relationship but they are a part of it. My boyfriend loves driving it and working on it with me. I help him when he is working on his truck or blazer just as much as he helps me. We both love washing our vehicles together as well. He's divorced because his ex-wife didn't enjoy the time he spent rebuilding the motor on his blazer or working on his dirt bikes. Lucky for me, I appreciate him and enjoy his toys so much more than she did! He takes me for who I am and I love him for who he is. Be happy because life is too short for regrets and wasted time!

If you are wanting a relationship, both folks have to change "some". Find out what you both like to do [not jeeping, not shopping]. Work on that.

The Outer Banks sounds very good but that is a few months away for really good weather. Florida might be a better, WARMER experience.

Take it from someone with eight vehicles including an SCCA race car, three Benz collector cars and the Jeep; and one wife of 21 years. The wife is better.
