Join the Obama youth...

America Serves | Change.gov

Quote:
The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.
Excuse me, mandatory service?

I'm not feeling all warm and fuzzy about this, how about you?

Okay I read the posting on the site, and the whole time I was thinking about another youth movement, that was cast upon our world stared by a guy named Adolf. Will there even be another election in 2012?

If everyone is going to be required to perform mandatory community service, what the hell are those people going to do that were "ordered by the judge" going to do?

Oh yeah, I supose they can be let free and just watch us work.

To clarify, I do mean this in an insulting manner. Do some of you guys think before you type/talk? If you actually believe some of the stuff you say, you are ignorant. "Will there be an election in 2012"? That has to be one of the most blasphemous and plain stupid posts I have ever read.

Do you know the meaning of the word "blasphemous"?? Can you find a better use for the word or at least find a better and more appropriate word to use in your statement above?

And the sheer amounts of the your usage of "ignorant" makes me wonder if you understand the definition of that word as well.

So, if you THINK you know, I believe you to be ignorant. If you are unable or incapable of expanding your language use, understanding and terminology, then I believe you may be stupid.

Please re-read before posting as I have carefully measured and thought out my post.

if you don't like it stay off the thread.

Of course we think before we type and talk, these are our opinions, comments and jokes. If you would pull your own head out of your a** you could see that. (and yes that was very though out)

if you came onto this thread/forum to do what you have been doing, which is pretty much arguing with every person who disagrees with you then I suggest you find another forum, its not welcome here. If you want to partake in some of the banter and great vast of knowledge that some of the persons on this site have then do so. But if you have nothing but negativity to add to some of these threads just leave them be or find another site.

Have a good day

Tone it down guys. Let's attempt to be adult when discussing a very real issue.

In line with the actual thread topic, kids in California are already required to do a certain amount of community service to graduate from High School.

And by the way, that is a gross misuse of the word blasphemous. Though it does mean profane, it is used in terms of religion, not government.

They are pretty free on how that service is done too. My son and two of his friends decided to put on a play. They ran the lights and sound for the HS theater. Anyway they wrote, cast, set up stage, lights and sound. The play ran for three days and they donated the proceeds to a local charity. I went to see the play and laughed my @$$ off, and yes it was a comedy. What killed me was what the kids thinks is funny now days.

Sorry a little OT

That is not a misuse of the word blasphemous. The Holocaust was because of the "purity" of man and Jews were persecuted. You guys are comparing Obama to Hitler who was king of Nazism. So therefore, it is not a misuse of the word...thanks. Arguing with everyone who disagrees with me? You are doing the same to me...thats what forums are about: chatting, debating, arguing, disagreeing, and just plain fun. Oh, I will have a good day...about to hit the stand to do a little hunting. Thank you sir...you are too kind.

I apologize Tiny, I am just throwing a little gas on the fire and getting these guys stirred up. I would say 90% of the crap I say is just for fun and to get these guys worked up but they take my "wranglerforum" alter ego seriously.

Actually, yes it is a misuse (I'm a bit of a writer). You would have gotten your point across better had you simply stated Godwin's Law.

Ok, now this is to everyone. Stirring the pot is fine, as in playing Devil's Advocate to get both sides heard, but there is a fine line between adding gas and trolling. Let's keep all the personal stuff out of these discussions so that all voices can be heard. We all have a differences of opinion and we should all be interested in hearing them. But liberal use of the word ignorant causes deafness.

Never knew that...WOW! I'm not sure how I feel about it. I think it's a good idea to impress the youth into community service but to compel them through the school system? I'm not sure if I'm personally OK with that.

How do you feel about that?

BTW: looks like you have your moderating work cut out for you this week.

I was irritated. I couldn't believe that they had the nerve to require community service from my son.... and then he came home proud that he'd served HIS community and I gained a whole new perspective about the program.

I'm tired of President Elect Obama, whom I did not vote for and still would not vote for, being compared seriously to Hitler. I'd have to have a few more sources about this program before I passed judgment on it. If it's an organization that kids join, kind of like the Boy Scouts of America, then I see no problem with it.

I agree. At first glace the boys in the video appear to be inner-city youth. Well hell, if it get's 'em off the street, keeps them from being in a gang and sets them on the path to be "community oriented", then whats the problem? At no point during the video did the so called "Hitler Jung" talk bad about white people or make any mention of chucking my relatives into an incinerator.

That's what I was kind of thinking. Make the kids do some service and perhaps it will grow on them a little. Volunteerism is tough these days. Try finding a baseball coach when you need one.

Hell, what am I talking about. My entire dept. had to do charity work for our latest team building excercise a few months ago. It's a good thing to give back once in a while to people that need your help.

But IMHO - charity work is not socialism.

Blasphemous
Blas"phe*mous\, a. [L. blasphemus, Gr. ?.] Speaking or writing blasphemy; uttering or exhibiting anything impiously irreverent; profane; as, a blasphemous person; containing blasphemy; as, a blasphemous book; a blasphemous caricature. "Blasphemous publications." --Porteus.

Nor from the Holy One of Heaven Refrained his tongue blasphemous. --Milton.

Note: Formerly this word was accented on the second syllable, as in the above example.

Couple things for thought since I had the Adolf comment:

I never said Obama reminded me of Hitler, what I said was his program reminds me of the hitler youth program after reading what was posted on obama web site. That being said here are some other thoughts on things obama has stated or done.

1. Children are easy to manipulate: Start slow getting them to do easy things like community service. Then from there it snow balls, soon they begin only teaching them one side or one thought process, shape them mold them to their ideals, not the parents etc.

2. Obama has appointed as his chief staff Ron emanual: Total Left winger, at a speech stood and jabbed a knife into the table as he pronounced death to certain people he felt didn't help the party.

3. Obama wants to create a civilian force that is better funded than the military and has power like them.

4. Joe Liberman a dem who stood with McCain, Is now underfire from Harry Reid who wants him to step down from the homeland dept chair he holds. So much for a new era of reaching across the way and embracing each other.

Thus, for me I will be more than happy to give him a hand shake when he does a good thing, but when he does not then that needs to be pointed out too.

You are correct 4Jeepn, hold that man under the lamp and question every move. He's working for us. As far at the Hitler comment, you were not the first to make it. It's been brought up several times. Hell, I could probably come up with Bush being compared to Hitler somewhere. We tend to pick him to denote evil in our leaders.

I understand the concern with a youth movement, but it doesn't have to be a negative thing. It can be positive.

And his choice for Chief of Staff sucks.

I'm blasphemous. Now that that is cleared up, I'm polishing up my boots. I was in the Lord's Army as a kid, so so a little marching and community service should be an easy transition. GOD HATES THE SAME PEOPLE YOU DO.

sorry, a little late on the response to this, I don't seriously think Obama is the new Hitler. but do think he is a very close link to the socialist aspect of government. To that (and about 99% of his other views) I disagree.
