They are mans best friend.
When it comes to smart dogs you'd be surprised at what they can do.
My grandfather had a seeing eye dog--- truly amazing watching that dog work.

I wish dogs lived as long as we did.
Putting your dog down is horrible. I never want to have to go through that again. But I hate not having a dog. Just feel so...empty. It doesn't feel right now having a dog.

Agree. I debated long on getting another one for that exact reason, we put mine down when she was 16 ... Had known her all my life at that point and told myself I never get one again cause it was too sad to see them go.

I love big dogs... But just wouldn't be fait for it to be alone in an appartment for 12 hours... He'd get depressed. Will def have dogs once I have my country home. Meanwhile jack can run laps in my appartment while I'm gone and he still has unconditional love to give lol.

I'm about to have to make that decision soon with my lab. She's already had tumors removed a couple years ago and they came back everywhere. I'm not ready for it...

My current dog is 13, still acts like a damn fool! Don't know if I'd get another.

They become part of the family.
When the time is right she'll let you know.
She'll give you that look and you'll just know.
Dogs enter our lives for what seems like a short time, but they live on in our memories and change our lives forever.

That's what happened to mine but they came back in the same spot on his colon. They couldn't remove the new ones because they would have to remove too much tissue to take the tumors out. So, we let him live with them for a while until the vet said they were getting too bad and it was making him uncomfortable, so we finally made the call to put him down. Had that dog since I was 4. Don't remember ever living without him. It was tough watching them put him down. But the memories I had with him was worth every bit of the pain of seeing him leave.

It sucks to have to start thinking about when it'll happen and figuring out when the right time is so they don't suffer too much.

This is my favorite poem, I have it framed with a pic of a black lab(I've had it for over 10 years)

A Dog's Prayer

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside... for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements... and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth... though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land... for you are my god... and I am your devoted worshiper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.
And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest...and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.
--Beth Norman Harris
