You see no hypocrisy? Give me a few minutes to get on my computer, I'll point some hypocrisy, and give you some cold facts to chew on.
Here are some Hypocrisy for ya:
You and countless others have said we shouldn't vote on civil liberties. I agree with this. However the organizations that are "fighting" for gay marriage don't say anything when legalizing gay marriage is voted on and passed. You can't be happy when it is voted on and passed but be mad and argue we shouldn't vote on civil liberties when it is voted on to ban it.
I would also dare to say 30-50% of the people in Washington at the SCOTUS building would say we should put gun control up for a vote. That is restricting my right the same as banning gay marriage.
There is your hypocrisy you don't see.
Here are some facts we should be living by instead of involving the government in everything.
The 1st amendment to the United States Constitution is part of the Bill of Rights that prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.
Marriage started as a religious commitment. Why are we now making laws on it? The first amendment says we shouldn't do that, and well some religions believe in gay marriage and you know what, if gays want to marry there. Be my guest, it really doesn't bother me.
If you are ok with trampling the first amendment, then let's look at this. Marriage, as a right, is a state right. Meaning the state gets to make it's own laws on marriage, why is the federal government now meddling in state business?
My point is, people are using the constitution when it is convenient to them. Stop it! Stop choosing when we should do something because it benefits you and say it's wrong when it doesn't go your way.
Simple fact is, Gay Marriage will be legal in this country, it is the future and only a matter of time. Get it over with! If it were voted on as a whole or even just in my state, I would vote to legalize it. It doesn't bother me. But as you have stated (and I agreed with) we should not vote or restrict rights/civil liberties. Maybe if we can get it over with and legalized, maybe just MAYBE we can start working on fixing bigger issues in America. Like our country failing financially or even ethically.
You have no idea how hard self control is when you walk out into your garage after picking up your order as a Cookie Mom as you stare at 300 cases of Thin Mints, Tagalogs, short breads, do si dos..... Its like an Ice Cream truck that serves crack cocaine, meth and pot driving down the barrio in LA and realizing yo mama's outta peso's mang...its just not fair!
