But the only thing I can find is the ratcheting type. Anyone know a name for that type of strap I can search for?
I think it's called a "Clasp buckle"... And the strap itself I've seen called "Nylon webbing"- you can choose different thicknesses...

I use straps for a baby's car seat. They hook right to the tub and do just what you are looking for

Weird! The first time I played it, it said "this video is private" and then I tried it again just now after you asked and it played! Haha!

I couldn't do that with my dog - she tries SO HARD to swim but eventually just starts to sink...

Josh - this might be a good site to check out:

Lots of different sizes, thicknesses, width...
Flat Nylon Webbing at Strapworks.com

There's also this page on the same site that has all sort of different hardware like buckles, loops, etc...
Plastic Hardware for straps & tie-downs at Strapworks.com

Haha! I had heard that bulldogs aren't good swimmers - so I took her out on the boat and kept her harness on and then put her over the side.

She was:
A. Terrified the second I put her in the water - like she knew her fate
B. Swam for about 15 seconds before her head started going under and then I pulled her out of the water.

Then she spent the next 5 minutes coughing and weezing and acting like I tried to kill her or something.

Whoa, something crazy just happened. I have extreme insomnia and it takes a lot for me to fall asleep. That's lying down. Sleeping at a desk is out of the question for me! Or so it seemed. I was talking to you guys, and I started getting tired, so I went to an empty desk and just passed out. I was dreaming and all of a sudden I heard someone whisper "Jaaaaake!" I jumped up thinking it was my manager and looked around, but the room was empty. A chill went down my spine and I walked briskly out of the room. Hahaha

It because they are top heavy and their smaller rear legs can't help much

Yeah... I felt bad for her - but at the same time it was pretty funny watching her... And her dramatics afterwards made it even better.

It's good though! Now we know they can't go in deep water - or if they DO somehow get into deep water, they'll need assistance immediately.

I only did it because she had refused to follow me out into the water past her belly so I needed to see if she could swim for potential future boat rides/river trips...

That's about what it looked like. Her big @$$ front paws were going nuts! It was almost like she was trying to spash everyone in the boat with water!
