Why does everyone flip their $h!t about paying sticker, or MSRP???

I quit fighting with dealerships a long time ago. If my payments are where they need to be, I don't have to finance for an eternity at some absurd interest rate, and I get the vehicle I want... I could give two flips less what the final price is.

If they can't make my payments match what I want to pay, or they give me some absurd interest rate, or want me to finance it for 15 years... I walk.

That's the worst way to buy a car. Going in and telling them what you want to pay a month is horrible because then they know exactly how much they can screw you on and still make you happy. When I sold cars, it is a proven fact that 75% of people will pay 50$ more a month than they come in saying because they don't want to be embarrassed when the salesman asks "is this too high for you?" "So you mean you can't afford this?" People egos jump in and they jump on the first number they see to be a hardass. Selling cars is very easy and there is money to be made because people don't know what they're doing and allow the salesman and sales manager to wall all over them. And when you pay sticker for a vehicle it's basically saying that you give up and can't outplay a trained monkeys way of talking you into paying more for something. Salesman laugh at people who pay sticker because they see it as pathetic and like "wow this person had no idea how bad we just screwed them". And on top of that, financing at a dealer means you paying them even more!!! Especially since they can hold 2% of the interest rate for there back end profits!!(bank really approves you at 2.99 but dealer says 4.99) it's only stupid if you let a dealer take your hard earned money for doing absolutely nothing but putting a car on a lot and then watching you drive out in it. Reason it's so funny to salesman is because when you pay sticker they make $500+ for that car not counting any other options you choose. Just plain lazy to pay sticker is the opinion of most including myself.

I dont go in and tell them anything. I tell them what kind of car I want. I don't ever talk numbers until I find something I like. If they ask me how much I want to pay, or what my payments are, I simply say "we'll discuss that later."

When it comes time to do "the dance", and they come back with "your payments are this for this long", I typically tell them that they are crazier than I look.

Never tell a dealer your financing till you negotiate the price of the car. Then on your phone, tell them the interest rate you already have from a credit union work out the interest on the phone calculator+the tax+$500 in fees+the price you negotiated/number of months=payment. Then they can't squeeze in a few more dollars cause you did all the math for them. And Numbers never lie <<espn great show

How much do you pay in interest above the sticker on a new JKU Rubi? Say if it was 47K?

I'll remember that in a few years when we buy something else.

I've been in a special situation though. We lost our home to foreclosure in 2006, and since then we've been repairing our credit. Our last two cars were financed at 18% because of our credit scores from the foreclosure. We paid for them for 2 years. I traded the Soul in for the Jeep in September and was FINALLY able to get 3.9% from my credit union. And then two weeks ago I traded the Forte in for the Sportage and ended up at 6% through Kia Motors Finance. I realize that I probably got taken for a few percentage points in interest, and they probably made loads of cash on me, but I'm not under that 18% interest rate anymore, I got a new car that we wanted, my payments didn't change, and I'm happy. We'll pay for these for a few more years, hopefully longer than we have in the recent past, and I'll 'dance' with a dealership again then.

I do have to say though, I let my credit union do all the negotiations for me when I bought my Jeep, and they rocked! The dealership was awesome, but you could tell they had that "we've been beaten" look when I went back to sign papers.

Depends on your interest rate you have good credit walk into a credit union and you can get 2.49%all day, at a jeep dealer they claim 4.99 in ally's best rate. That's double the interest so after tax lets say that jeep is 50k that's either 1500$ in interest at 2.49 or 3000$ in interest at 4.99. Only 2.5% difference is $1500. People don't realize that and they just say its a minimal difference. It's not especially when the dealer is basically stealing that money from you since ally sent them a 2.99 and they're charging you a 4.99 so they will be getting an extra $1000 profit! For doing nothing!!

Jeeps don't need doors! Wear rubber pants in the morning if need be.

My Jeep dealer got me 1.9%, credit union was 2.4%. Funnily enough the Jeep deal was through a local credit union.
