You know that whole 'slipper slope' that gets mentioned when you start modding your Jeep?

Someone throw me a rope please....

I'm going to have to quit... SOON! I'm selling camera gear to pay for my audio upgrades in my Jeep!!

Last week I got it back from the body shop for the hail damage. On the way home I decided to stop and get the windows tinted. I made the mistake of going to the local tint/audio shop and while I was waiting I started looking at subs.

Fast forward to yesterday, I decided that I couldn't wait anymore for the sub, so I went to get it. I decided to pass on the store, and ended up buying the exact same setup off of amazon last night for $200 less.

Tonight I've gone from researching how to tap the wires, to buying Polk upgrades for the soundbar and speaker wire adapters, and now I'm looking at the JVC head units!!

Polk, $30 more than the Apline upgrade you were going to do aren't they. And they are 10x better. And really JVC head unit? They used to be #1 not if you ask me. They tend to be on the lower end. I would go Alpine or Sony head unit

No. The Polk DB651s units can be bought for about $55 on Amazon... and when I found that out, there's no reason to spend money on stock take offs, even if they are Alpine.

ETA: I originally thought that you couldn't use the factory grill covers for the soundbar. But I've been reading thread after thread on the Polks here on WF, and realized that I can if I order the shallow mounts.

And I'm looking at the JVC KWAV61BT because of its detachable faceplate, and bluetooth abilities... and it doesn't hurt that I can add a backup camera eventually.

Oh. Yeah. Then that's what I have. Except its just the el cheapo base unit.

I was gunning for a 430 stock unit, but why spend ALL that extra money when I can get better features, and a detachable face plate for about $400 less?

Hey Y'all.

I really didn't want the upgraded stereo in my Jeep, but it was the only one with everything I wanted within 1,000 miles so I got it. I'm pretty glad I did now, quite possibly the best stock stereo system I've ever heard. It even sounds better than my friends E-55 AMG!

Yes, but for those of us that have the basic radios, that upgraded head unit is like an $800 upgrade. The 430's are $400-$600 depending on where you are getting it from. And then there is a whole host of issues that you can encounter trying to install it, especially if you don't have the code etc... And as I said, it doesn't have a detachable faceplate.

They stock media units are nice, but they just aren't practical as an aftermarket unit.

Not to mention the Uconnect issues everyone is having, aftermarket is always better.

I was intent on adding Uconnect, and a stock unit... but after tons of research, and weighing out the cost vs problems, I decided it wasn't worth it for me. YMMV.
