Was flippin through the forums and saw this, "trolling" i guess, lol. This I totally agree with. I keep a loaded 12 gauge short barrel smooth bore next to the bed with my Springfield 1911 RA .45 on my night stand and my GF keeps my Colt woodsman .22 on hers. Id rather her hit her mark with the .22 6 or 7 times than miss with the .45. First go to is the shotty though. Just the racking of the pump will scare away most intruders.

I probably could, if that's possible. I didn't know that was possible though.

Maybe I should ask someone.

True enough...pretty hard to miss with the 45 in a hallway. But but point and shoot in general direction with the 12 works also..

It was my grandfathers hunting gun. He was a duck guide in South Louisiana. It's a semi-auto. I need to have it refinished though because it has the tiniest specks of rust on the barrel.

On the outside or inside? If it's on the outside just spray it with wd-40 and wipe it off, that will keep it from getting worse.

The other problem with the .45 is over penetration, even a hollow point at close range will exit and continue to travel through walls, doors, etc. Secondary damage is not good, this is the beauty of the 12. I prefer a high base 3" magnum turkey load over bigger/ slower buckshot.

Sometimes I wish we could use guns for self defense here and have them in our homes for protection. My coworker who lives alone recently got broken into her house buy a guy who was tripping on drugs he smashed all her windows open and destroyed like a bunch of stuff. She called the cops they told her to hide somewhere and got there 15 minutes later. Scary stuff.

It may be. Depends on the state and their requirements for concealed carry training. You should have no problem finding someone willing to teach you a few things.

Clean all the oil off the barrel then take some 0000 steel wool and polish it. Get some "cold blue" and dab it on with a Q-tip let dry for a bit, polish with the steel wool then repeat several times. It works damn good!

I like my pepper spray and 28" X 3/4" stainless bar. With kids around I refuse to not have my guns locked up.

True enough....secondary damage is not a concern in my case...nothing in background but inanimate objects...and a dead dirtbag..

Don't have small kids anymore. And both girls very proficient with a weapon.

Are you saying that you can't? Is it illegal in Canada?

That's why I stick with my .40. I feel more comfortable with it and I can keep it accessible. Id rather keep the long guns in the safe because of the kids.

Your guns should always be locked up in a locker with ammo in a separate locker. You can't shoot a gun within city limits you have to be outside the city and can't carry a gun around.

Definitely safety first. My kids grew up around guns and were taught how to properly use them under supervision. I never kept them a secret or hid them. If they wanted to see them we would get them out and clean them etc. my son took his hunters safety class at age 12. Was the 5th one done in 100 people, many of them over 40. I trust him with a firearm more than anyone i know. Having all firearms locked up kinda defeats the purpose. My ex father in law kept a shotgun in the front room under the couch which passes by the front door and kept the shells in a cupboard in a different room. Might as well just let them in.

I have no kids, so mine stays loaded and kept with the box of shells in the wardrobe closet next to the bed.

You can't fire anything in the city limits here either, but I'll be damned if a city ordinance is going to prevent me from making the next intruder D.R.T.

And Texas is concealed carry. I think OK is open carry now though.
