Very nice! I make my mash from sweet feed; corn, molasses, rye, barley... If I run it slow I get about 160 proof, then mix the other ingredients in to make about a 100 proof apple pie. My best recipe is a simple rum, though.

Have an electric one here. If it uses fire it has to be registered as an explosive device. My hydrometer usually registers around 170. I've tried letting it sit and ferment longer after done but I usually don't make it past two days.

Well my main secret to my apple pie and ice cream is 1/2 liter of whipped vodka added to 3 gallons of finished product. It's my most requested. I throw in some other stuff in my custom recipe but that's what gives the ice cream taste.

I've tried vanilla but nothing comes closer than whipped vodka. It's perfect.

It doesn't even get to sit longer than 1-2 days before I'm out.

Mix it with dr pepper when I float the river. Got to thinking one day about adding it to my real apple pie moon shine and it is incredible!

I never thought about asking permission or registering a still...
I'm old-school. The only thing that might be considered modern is that I use a reflux design and gas burner, converted from an outdoor cooker. My pot is a beer keg, with a stainless column. I use copper packing, though.

We were going to use gas but I'm glad we didn't build one and ordered an electric. It cooks like a dream.
