My AC doesn't get as cold as it used to either and it takes about 10 minutes for my heat to heat up...

If the tstat is stuck open, it wouldn't run hot. I had some work done on mine and the people forgot to put a tstat back in. The heater would never get warm. I was told on this forum the tsat was stuck open. When I checked it, I found it wasn't even there

It's three bolts, took about 10 minutes. Just be careful not to over tighten the bolts. It will warp the tstat housing....ask me how I know that

I used the supplied gasket and just snugged it up the first time, and used a torque wrench the second time

No. It would make it run cool and stay low on the temp gauge. My jeep was doing the same thing when I got it. Took 10 minutes flushed the heater core and good to go since

Lauren...
Doesn't matter, freon can evaporate that quick. You also could have a bad blend door. Either way, I would pay the $92 have it vacuum pumped out, dye run through, then recharged.
