That's the bumper. Winch is still in box so I don't know all of the components yet but I will be home from work in about 10 min and will pull them out. My friend thinks we can just bolt on the top. Maybe????

I still recommend using a winch plate, otherwise you'll have no place to mount your fairlead

Kris, have you seen the thread "harbor freight tools that don't suck"? if you've ordered stuff from there, and you like it, give some feedback

Before I forget:
Heart felt thanks for the prayers for Julia; when I told her father about it he was stunned. I wasn't as I know you guys/gals. I'm very lucky and proud to call you all my friends!

Will do, I haven't had any problems though I stay away from the rock bottom specials. You get what you pay for. They are like walking into an office depot, they have quality loss leader items to get you to buy, they also have junk. You just need to know the difference.

if you just bolt it to the top, be ready for a bent bumper and a broken winch in the first pull

So how will I know what winch plate to get? Smitty built looks like they have one I like but my winch is quadratec. Is that a problem?. You see I havent seen the workings of the plate, bumper, and winch all together. I'll tear into the destructions and see what they look like. I just hate having to waite for more than 10 whole seconds before I can go pull something down or even out of my parking space.

answer to your problem, while you are forced to wait, go puncture/deflate the tires of whatever is in your spot; it will give you time to get your gear together and pull away!

well I've seen plates that you are supposed to bolt to the top of bumpers that LOOK exactly like yours. For instance, look at the warn winch plate or the or-fab winch plate: both bolt right on top of their respective bumpers.

HOWEVER, there are notes on both of the plates that say they are intended to be used only on their (each respective company's) bumper.

who makes the bumper that you're going to install?

Ok this is how it goes. The winch plate is supposed to mount to the frame using the SAME bolts as the bumper. The bolt pattern on the winch for it to be mounted is universal. They are all the same bolt pattern on the bottom of the winch besides some super winches, Ramsey's, and Warns

so a rough country, smittybilt, quadratec, rugged ridge winch plate all fit the same winches, q-series winches, smittybilt winches, etc. that's the only way they could make bumpers built for winches. They don't know which one you are getting

Does that mean I have to cut out the top of the bumper in order for it to attach to the plate? This blows!

Just had another friend of mine who lives 60 miles away that says it's cake walk to fab some stuff. It's just a matter of getting together. Rest assured, it will be a bad a$$bumper by the time in done. It's just a matter of cutting welding and grinding.
I'm pretty stubborn.
