It was low 50s when I left yesterday morning, 80 here in the afternoon.

My son doesn't deal well with it. He did okay when he was younger and I could control what he ate. But since he has gotten older, he manages to end up in ICU at least once a year. He has a mild mental disability to have to deal with too.

You know they have done studies that show when diabetics have high bs, we tend to be in a depressive state. I have been on an insulin pump since I was 18(ended up in ICU since I was away from my folks and not taking care of myself) and it was the best decision of my life.

Hope so, I will be back in Kentucky next Monday. Got to find a place to hang my hat. Got a line on a place in Gilbertsville.

He (my son) has been talking to his doctor about a pump but I'm not sure if he would be able to deal with it because of his other limitations. He is currently taking anti-depressants and it makes sense because his blood sugar normally stays pretty high. He indulges in things that he knows good and darn well he can't have. Or at least can't have in the quantities that he eats.

If he is able, I would strongly suggest getting a pump. I fought with my parents for a year and within a week of wearing it, I was eating a lot of crow. I hope that it works out for him.

Not anymore, I have liked Ky, since my first visit 4 years ago. Decided this summer I would make the move and give it a go this fall and tie it in with my trip here.

What difference did it make for you? His problem seems to be that his bs stays high so he is hungry all of the time. I'm assuming it's because his body isn't receiving any nourishment from what he does eat because of the lack of insulin.

Awesome. I moved up here July 2010 and have loved every minute of it. Well other than the lack of a good paying job. Still struggling to make ends meet. But the people are great. My kids and I have found a church we like. So if I could get the job thing worked out for me and my son, all would be good.

When I hit 18, my bs started averaging around 330(my parents had always keep mine within normal range). Once I got on the pump it was back within normal range within a month. You still have to bolus for meals and things, but for me it is sooo much better control.

I agree, great people and beautiful land. I also found prices to be reasonable also. I also have friends over in Russelville to.

See, I'm not sure he would be dilligent enough to administer the additional insulin. He is such a pain about taking his shots right now. I will talk to him about it though and see if it would be something he thought he could keep up with. What about maintenance? How much is involved in dealing with the infusion site?

Well I hope things work out so that you can find what you are looking for. Maybe if I ever get my jeeps up and running, I could drop in one day to say hello.

I have to change my site every few days, its a lot better than giving 3-4 shots a day. Now I only give one shot(infusion site) every few days. There is a lot more to it, but it is still easier than trying to control it with shots IMO
