let them know we love them...

...and that they are not forgotten.

National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans week kicks off tomorrow. It ends on February 14, Valentines day. Follow the link and find all the information you need to send a card to a Veteran spending his/her day in the hospital.

National Salute to Veterans - Public and Intergovernmental Affairs

Quote:
From wars and battles in far off lands, to standing guard on the frontiers of freedom, veterans’ experiences shaped their lives in profound ways. For many hospitalized veterans today, a kind word of acknowledgement for their service helps provide them with a sense of comfort and belonging.

In 2008, over 5.5 million veterans received care in VA health care facilities. This year, veterans will receive care in a system that includes 153 medical centers and 1,400 sites of care; including 909 ambulatory care and community-based outpatient clinics, 135 nursing homes, 47 residential rehabilitation treatment programs, 232 Veterans Centers and 108 comprehensive home-care programs. With compassionate professionals providing an outstanding level of care, it is still the human contact that gives comfort to the mind and soul of the veteran.

A card is the least some of us can do. Please get included with these Soldiers who are in a hospital bed because they put thier life on the line PROTECTING YOU.

I'll be spending wensday and probally thursday at the VA in Wichita talking with my brothers and sisters. And trust me it means the world to them just to talk to someone who cares.

I'm thinking of talking to the boy's teacher Tuesday, see if maybe she'll have the kids write up some cards. I can deliver them Saturday.

Great Idea!

I loved getting cards from school kids when deployed. Especially during Christmas and other holidays. Sometimes it's all a Military member gets.
The hand made drawings/cards from the 1st and 2nd grades was always the cutest.

COME ON PEOPLE, GET OUT THERE AND SHOW THEM YOU CARE!

I have in my possession a pile of thank you cards from Mrs. Stacy's fifth grade class. The kids did a wonderful job and I'm excited to deliver them Saturday.

From Kayla:

Quote:
Dear Vets,

Thank you for all of you effort that you do for us. You work really hard for us! How does it feel to know that you're helping your country and you fight for our safety. Do you sometimes get scared? Alot of people say vets.. never get scared. Its okay to get scared! Hope you have a very great day!
I have thirty cards, just like this, to deliver. I didn't open all of them, but I had to look at just one. She drew a picture of herself hold an American flag and wrote it in her very best handwriting.
