Just thought I would share this with the rest of you. One of the rubber hood latches on my TJ broke so I swung by the local dealership to pick one up thinking it was a cheap part that would cost $20 max. The worker said he had one in stock and brought it out for me. I asked how much I owed and he said $67 and some change. I think I may have actually laughed out loud then said thanks anyways as I walked out the door. Anyways, I have already ordered one off fleabay for $20 shipped.
I also called today to ask about the rubber floor plugs for my yj. I found them on line for $.99 so I thought I would just get local if they are so cheap.
Well the dealer wants $6.75 a piece I guess I will be putting in an order on line.
One thing to keep in mind about dealer parts departments is they are there to charge as much as they think they can get away with. Many people walk in there thinking it's like buying from the grocery store where the prices are fixed. If you push them for a discount after doing a good impression of a theatrical hysterical laugh after hearing their first price, they'll usually get more reasonable.
After several trips into my local Jeep parts department and going out of my way to become friendly/friends with everyone from the parts manager on down, they started giving me wholesale prices without me even having to ask for a discount after a while. I always sat down to BS with them for a while which they liked. Ask for discounts, all they can do is say no if they are complete jerks.

my friend's mom found out i had a jeep and thats all she ever talks about now. she's the mall crawler type, I am trying to convert her. Anyways this weekend we were talking about her jeep (4 door JK) and she told me she got a hard top and she was all exited because she got a good deal. So I ask her how much she payed for it...She goes, all exited, $4275 at the Jeep dealership. I was outraged for her...same EXACT Mopar 3 piece top is avalible from Quadratec for $2250. Is it normal for dealers to be scam artists?

My hubby is like your wife, Fredo. He doesn't care. He just wants it now, now, now! Tells me the hunt is not worth the savings. Oh well. I would rather hunt and save the extra money for MORE mods!!!!!!!!!!
"It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care."
I will NEVER buy a car at a STEALERSHIP! They are all rip off artists. I have many times laughed in the face of a dealership parts/sales guy. And always loud enough for anyone in the vicinity to hear.Goes over well on the show room floor. LOL
apparently people buy from them so they can keep on charging what they want. They are still in business and remodeling as I post. There must be a bunch of spenders out there to fill their coffers. Amazing isn't it being what our economy is.
It ain't easy being cheesy:
Sometimes I make decisions like famous people.

Titanic's Captain Smith "What icebergs? Full speed ahead!"
