Don't wanna get off the beaten path here but what sorts of issues did you run into?
That sucketh man. My wife and I became friends in 88 when we both worked at Wendy's together. A couple members of my family had problems at first. I never had a problem from anyone on my wife's side or any black people for that matter. No black person has ever said anything to my face and I have not heard anything. When me moved in together, I got a letter in the mail quoting bible verses about how races should not mix. Turned out to be from my redneck uncle in law. We got called names a couple of times walking through town from passing vehicles. N word and N lover and such. A couple years ago some redneck yelled "white power" out his window as me and my son were bike riding. My son didn't know what that meant. I jumped off my bike and motioned for them to come back. Naturally, they didn't.
So far, at 12 years old, he's never had a problem at school with it.
I think a lot of people are cool with it. Either that or they hide their true feelings inside. Over the years, many people I've ran into have fell victim to foot in mouth disease when talking to me, thinking I'm just like them. One of my black friends calls me undercover brother..LoL. My wife and I never think about race until someone else brings it up. My dad's always been the most open minded of my parents and me and my brother always had black friends, We played together, we had sleepovers. I got heavily into hip hop music in the 80s and was always hanging out with black kids. I hung out with everybody. All of this plays a part in some of my views and how I turned out imo.
