I have an 8 channel system from Lorex. It's a Canadian company, but I couldn't find anything made in the states, so I figured dealing with the Canadians was OK.
I found the set up to be easy. I love the size, it mounts on the back of a standard monitor with supplied screws. Mine has a remote that allows your to switch through the channels, but won't power the unit up. It's a hard drive rather than tape system and that is alway preferred these days.
I've had other brands that lasted one to three years and offered no simple way to download "incidents" to other media. The Lorex system let's you download directly to a USB flash drive and the interphase is easy.
I use mine in my business, which we live above, and I've decided that once we sell this place I will install the same system in our new home. I like watching my granddaughter playing in our backyard. I love being able to watch my front door when I hear a noise outside. I love being able to keep an eye on blind areas of my property. If you can't stop them from breaking in, it's always nice to be able to have them arrested after the fact.
the Lorex system also allows for remote viewing of your system from the net on other computers or smart phones.
