While your at it go get the IPAD so you can have a 600 dollar plate with a touch screen that you can't even put a cd into or have a mouse. WTF why do people want them?

Anyone you ask that is a mac fan like me will tell you that macs are the best. Same if they have a pc they will say pc's are the best. All i can tell you if I was buying a pc is I wouldn't get a dell. Dell's are pieces of crap and may last you 2 years. Just my 2 cents

Macs are good for one thing - graphics (solidworks and the such) if you need it for anything else it is not the greatest. I have played with macs I am not a fan. I am a PC guy, I have a lot of friends that are mac crazies and they always say macs never crash. ( My pc's crash from time to time it happens) They (2 or 3 of them) have had to had there macbooks replaced because they crashed lol. No just re-installing the op system!

alright Macs are good for certain things

but 90% of Mac users do not use it for them. They are into the name and the fad.
And yes, if you look at the numbers and compare, you would see that they are overpriced.

Def expensive, but for any type of media graphics, music, photos, video, design, macs are far superior and with my own experiences they crash far far less if not at all. Macs are costly but then again you get what you pay for.

id say 90% buy for the customer service...if ur pc breaks down you either have to send it in or go to the geeksquad. if ur apple product breaks down you can just walk into a mac store and if they can't fix it they will send it out. My ex had a 4 year old macbook and the battery went bad... they replaced it on the spot for free and even out the new operating system on for free.

I have 2 Mac powerbooks. I also have 2 PC laptops and a desktop. I prefer the MPB for most uses, but Windows has a huge number of programs that aren't offered in a Mac. I could run a Windows emulator and place the programs I need on my MPB, but I was never happy with the way they ran.

Once I sell my business, which may take a while, the PC's will end up in a closet and the PB's will remain in use. I refuse to do the Mac vs. PC argument, They both have their uses and personal preference should rule in all purchases for a computer. I love the stability of the Mac OS but I miss the availability of some very cool programs that are only available for PC. Pluses and minuses in everything, including computers.

Buy what you want or can afford.

I havn't looked into laptop specs in a while, BUT when I got my MBP a while back...

* LCD Panel Quality - It was the cheapest option with a monitor of its quality. IBM had a lenovo model that was supposedly better... but it was about $1000 more. Not a big deal for most... doing photo work?

* Durability... the research I was finding at the time, showed Asus and Apple with the best chance of your laptop surviving 3 years. HP/Dell had a pretty poor chance of getting to 3 years if memory serves me correctly.

* Less chance of money going to Microsoft :P

Asus supposedly have great durability, but cut corners in areas like quality of the LCD Panel for the monitor. But maybe that has changed?

Some can be ordered with Linux, so you can dodge the Microsoft tax. Personally I love Linux, so no brainer for me.

I love my Macbook... I don't use it for nearly it's capabilities, but I love the fact that they are darn near virus proof.... I used to be a PC girl, and always hated stupid anti virus software junk. My Mac doesn't need that stuff, and it never catches anything...

If you look on CL and ebay you can get some really good deals on them. Bought one 2 months ago for my son, he had to have it for school, $500. It's really nice, I can't wait till he graduates so I can get my hands on that one.. He doesn't like it cause he can't write some code thing he does on it... Mine came from ebay, cost a bit more than his, but it's been problem free for several years....

The sky is blue.
Grass is green.
Jeeps are fun.
Macs are expensive.

Not to bash Mac, but they don't have viruses because nobody bothers to write them for Macs. Mac computer market penetration is still pretty damn tiny. Mark my words, IF Macs ever catch on and have a sizable market share, you will start seeing viruses on them. They're every bit as susceptible to viruses as the PC.

ding ding ding sinister has hit the nail on the head... another reason why is because people dont hack macs too often... there isnt anything to try and get, all the government computers are PC bases... most people that have macs use them for internet, pics, music, and micosoft office for mac thats about it.

if thats all you want to do on it, there isnt any problem with that, im not hating on macs, i even owned one at one point, (mostly for adobe photoshop and illustrator) but the fact is the market of programs out there arent focused on macs and so you loose out in alot of situations... but if you dont plan on being in those situations then dont sweat it and buy one.

and yes they are expensive... because they are designer laptops.

X2

MacBooks are way better than a pc could ever be. It's like comparing a Jeep with a Hummer, or a Kia with a Maserati. Some folks don't like how software isn't compatible with a Mac but that's actually Apples rise to fame. There are wayyyyyy to many different components on the market for a pc, ie: processors, hard drives, motherboards, memory, graphics cards, video cards, etc. But with Mac they do the work for you and put the best in there for you. Everything in a Mac is designed for a Mac. No pc has the same components.
Battery life is way better than a pc, I've never heard of a MacBook overheating(had plenty of gateways, dells, hps to overheat). Also for the iPad haters, you can use keyboards and mice with them. It's called Bluetooth technology.

This is the best part, when you call customer support you get to talk to a real life AMERICAN Person, no oriental that's claims there name is Lisa or David.

Apple Products FTW!!!!

Let's just say if I was given a mac computer for free I would sell it right away, not even open it up and try it out that's how much I hate APPLE! If the economy weren't so bad I would probably drop it off the Grand Canyon, but I could use the money...

Well I for one have had great experiences with Dell products. Others must as well as more and more corporate IT departments are standardizing on Dell equipment as well.

Though I have to admit we are buying $1000+ Dell laptops not the low end stuff.

They are pricey, but I love my Macbook.

I've had toshiba and Compaq before my Apple. I have issues with tripping on the cord...which destroyed my Toshiba, and injured my compaq. If someone else would come up with a power cord like apples that doesn't wreck the computer when you trip on the cord then I'd consider something other than Mac....esp with windows 7. I have that on my work machine, and Its much better than previous OS' from Microsoft IMO.

My old work machine was a Dell desktop. It caught fire under my desk. But it was old and mal-nourished. but yes I'm serious, the powersupply caught fire, and I had flames trying to get me.

I am sitting on my Dell laptop right now that I payed $440 bucks for 3 years ago, and it's still going strong...3 hours of battery life or more on the same battery that came with it, that's a big plus for me!
