Why is the J in JK at the start instead of the end like all the other Js?

The "L" is the true designation. The "U" is strictly a thing that has developed and grown to acceptance from the various Jeep forums. It has even grown to add the model designation of "R" for Rubicon. Although that personally makes me nuts when someone tries to add the "S" for Sahara (or is that Sport?).

Because the "K" designation was also used by the Liberty. KJ and KK. It also fit in with the Grand Cherokee being the WK.

I love XJ's too... but the unibody does have its drawbacks!

(IE smack something with a snowplow and the doors never open again, part it out and start over...)
