Having spent most of my life in south Florida (Ft. Lauderdale and Miami), I've been there tons of times for different events.
I'll also tell you that depending on how much you want to spend for accommodations in south Florida, you may want to stay in Ft. Lauderdale. (slightly cheaper...although, I haven't been there in about 6 years so shop around.) SunLife stadium is just south of the county line between Miami-Dade County and Broward County. The stadium isn't in "downtown" per se...rather, it's pretty far west out of the city. It's actually in a city called Miami Gardens. With traffic in and out of the stadium, where you stay isn't really a huge factor.
Traffic leaving the stadium can be a b!tch so watch the overhead signs or you could wind up headed in the wrong direction.
They have security...and lots of it. Keep your valuables locked up and out of sight in the Jeep.
Check the rules of what you can bring into the stadium. Some of my friends that still live down there say the rules recently changed. Here's the website for the stadium - Sun Life Stadium
Generally, people attending the games are fairly nice. Of course, there's always the guy/group/crowd that has had way too much to drink and think that they are invincible...security usually handles that quickly but if you encounter someone wanting to start something, just keep your mouth shut and keep walking - they usually won't follow.
With the game being a late game, security (police) will be plentiful.
Good luck and GO PHINS!!
