Monster Tractor Build

Most Jeepers I know are into all things jacked up and using things for purposes other than their intended design. This is going to be the build thread of me turning an ordinary lawn tractor into an All Terrain type Vehicle on a budget. If anybody has any questions or suggestions during my build feel free to ask or let me know. I know there is a forum online devoted to this exact thing but I feel like my fellow Jeepers would appreciate what I'm doing. Alright enough talking. This is what I'm starting with:

Lose the deck and fill the tires with sand. It'll greatly improve their contact patch, and lower your COG. If the air filter box is down low, run a threaded or clamped PVC tube out a couple inches from the block to a 90° bend, then up a couple feet and clamp/thread the box back on.

And get rid of the blade engage lever; that's got nut shot written all over it!

So far today I got all the actual mower parts off, which was a bigger pain than I thought it would be. I went to switch the small pulley from the engine and the large one that drives the rear engine so I could get more speed but one is keyed and the other is more like a gear on the inside. That's when the sky opened up so I'm done working for the day. The sand filled tires idea is interesting. I was thinking of fluid filled but sand might be better. Any ideas on how to fill them? Thanks

Also, I like the idea of raising the air box. I'm also planning on doing a straight pipe up through the hood

I chopped the sides using a sawzall (not too clean but efficient). Also lost the mower deck and muffler. I'll be working on remounting the hood hinge so that the whole front flips forward (think tractor trailer hood). Hopefully getting new front tires soon along with my welder so I can start on the straight pipe. Didn't feel like fiddling with bolts yet so the panels are just propped up

Alright so I couldn't do any real work due to the weather but I did re-cover the seat using an old couch cushion I found in the bottomless pit of my garage, along with some duct tape. It doesn't look too nice but it's better than rusty metal with some screws sticking into your butt. Also, I mocked up my hood latches but need a couple carabiner clips to make sure the measurements work so that'll have to wait until tomorrow

Today's progress: I ditched the idea of a pipe through the hood because I realized the exhaust fumes would kill me before I could truly test the machine. Now I'm doing a single pipe back and down to under the foot rest. It's a pipe from my old Hi-Lift jack that got bent in half. I haven't put the bends in the pipe yet because I ran out of daylight and energy. I mounted it to half of the original muffler that I took apart. Also, I finished the hood latches. Got some JB High Heat Weld for the exhaust setup but I won't apply that until Thursday because I have to go to South Carolina for a few days.

Also, in true keeper fashion, I added a set of D Rings to the front and will be getting one for the back soon

Finally got enough clear weather and free time to do a little more work on the All Terrain Mower. Got the hood sprayed with some bed liner. Also got it running with the help of so starter fluid finally. It's pretty loud without any sort of exhaust system to buffer the noise. It'd only run for a few seconds before cutting out so I dowsed it in some carb cleaner. Still searching for some ATV tires for it.

Didn't get much done today because the sky decided to open up again. So much for sunny and 76 all day. I got the drive select painted though and will be finishing the exhaust tonight once I dig up a new blade for my hacksaw.

Went to check on it ad the exhaust pipe fell off. The chunk from the Hi Lift jack was too heavy for the JB. So I removed that piece and tried again

Got it all back together and bypassed the safety that doesn't allow the engine to turn on with the blades engaged because, well, it's pretty pointless when you don't even have a mower on it. Taking it for a test ride once it stops raining

Stock flex on this thing is pretty great. There's six inches under that tire and the front axle is the only thing that moved. That's already better than most cars and some SUVs. Any ideas on how to improve it for cheap though?

What is that tire from? I'm trying to find ATV tires for the rear but that'd be perfect on the front

Still starts then stalls after about 5 seconds. Any ideas on what's wrong?

Fuel lines and filter maybe. Or carb.
