Movie remakes

Whats with all these remakes of old movies? Just saw a commercial for Robocop is why i'm asking. I think some movies really don't need to be remade. Like True Grit. Don't get me wrong the remake was excellent but, in my opinion, the original was John Wayne's best movie. Any movies you guys think shouldn't be remade. Not just ones now any in general. I think the Lethal Weapon series should never be remade. Any thoughts?

The way Murphy dies in this new Robocop is ****ing lame. Doesn't even compare to being shot 50 times by Red Foreman :/

Flight of the Phoenix with Jimmy Stewart was remade. Into a piece of crap.

The Lego Movie is freaking AWESOME!!! I'm 40 and I had more fun than my 7 year old kid.

Original ideas are the best, take a chance on an original script.

Unfortunatly, the original never made it big, but it was excellent.

Total Recal remake was also a definite waste.

The studios are taking trying to take less risk by making/remaking stuff that they know people already like.
It takes less time, there's already a known audience, and it takes less creative ability.

The problem with that whole idea?
People generally don't want to see their favorite movie re-made shot for shot (ie Psycho) and they sure don't want it made into something else (ie Robocop, Red Dawn...etc).
Finding a good middle ground seems to be VERY difficult.

I am on the other side of the fence. I think remakes pay homage to the originals and it speaks volumes for there success. When a remake comes out I normally rent or Netflix the original before watching the remake. I agree that some are done much better than others.

To me it is no different than a band playing another bands song. Metallica Turn The Page for example. Do we hate Metallica for doing a "Remake"?????? I certainly don't.

I'm not saying all remakes are bad. I just think writers need to think up other stuff. And ,don't know if you listen to country music, but Darius Rucker re-sang Wagon Wheel and it was terrible. Actually most "country" music these days is terrible, but that's a different subject. I like your sig btw. Could you imagine a Smokey and the Bandit remake?

I would watch it if they did.

I agree writers don't seem to have the imagination they used too.
